We recently connected with Vincent Larue and have shared our conversation below.
Vincent, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Follow your interests in life, and dig deeper year after year. For me, interest in drawing and graphic stories was present for as long as I can remember. It grew as I grew up. Some times in ways more consistent than others, but life, especially the youngers years, is not a linear thing.
You have to trust your passions and cultivate your way of seeing things through the eyes of an artist. Patience and determination are necessary.
The main obstacle is that the world isn’t waiting after you to practice your craft, society will ask you to do other things, studies, get a job, pay bills… get a situation. All of that can stood in the way.

Vincent, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As a pen and ink artist, I have been making posters, graphic novels, illustrations for the past 12 years. I have showed works in the USA and in France where I live. Mostly in Arizona, Oregon, and Normandy. I have worked with many writers, published two graphic novels and I’m always working on new things despite keeping a regular job in a sports store.
I have also worked with non-profit organisations, using my craft for projects to help others, whether it was at risk kids in Phoenix, or asylum seekers here in France.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I got a US visa denial back in 2014 and had to cancel a solo show in one of the best art galleries in Phoenix Arizona. Had to find a job, what I did in a cookie factory in the remote part of France where I was living at the time. And had to make new life plans.
Things won’t work the way you’d like them to be, and you’ll have to go through it anyway, freedom lies there.

: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Story-telling through visual art can bring magic to people’s life. Express unfathomable things.
Distract them from consumerism.
Inspire them… maybe even push them to express themselves as well in a creative way!
