We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bob Reish. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bob below.
Bob, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
The purpose of The Caveat Institute is to come along side aspiring and seasoned business leaders, who are successful and know they are successful, but know there is another level of success and are stuck. We help them get to the next level, from success to significance. What makes us different from the industry standard? We help people think different about time, networking, money, and business. We don’t focus on thinking out of the box. Thinking out of the box stems from the perspective of the status quo. We focus on thinking from the perspective of a soaring eagle. Replacing a perspective from the status quo to a perspective from clarity and creativity. At The Caveat Institute, we serve from our 5 pillars, not based on content and services. First, we strive to understand our clients from where they are currently positioned. Second, we provide hope when they are unable to see their finish line. Third, are passionate about who they are as a person and professional. Fourth, we create an atmosphere of accountability. Finally, we are their trusted advisor. They know that we are in their corner.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As I reflect on the beginning of my journey, it started before I was able to realize the significance of the moment. My journey began with my high school basketball coach saying, ” Bob, I think you would make a better wrestler.” It turned out that I was not a much better of a wrestler either… In a similar moment after I completed my degree in electronics from DeVry, working on telecommunications systems, my supervisor observed that I was not great at working with my hands. The decision was made to place me in the classroom to teach clients. The motivation was to keep me from breaking things, the result, the initial spark of my passion.
As the years ticked away, I always found my way in the classroom and on stage. Most people exercised great effort to avoid speaking in a public setting, it turned out I thrived in the public speaking setting. Through multiple career settings in various industries, I began to hone my craft. As my craft became passion, challenges and obstacles turned into greater opportunities instead of hinderances. Although I experienced disappointment, discouragement, and demotivation, I pushed past those moments. I discovered that mentors in my life were of great value. I learned those who were betting on my failure, those who attempted to sabotage my growth, and those who attempted to derail my aspirations, were of greater value.
As I look back at my experiences, if I know what I would have to have endured, I would have chosen a different path, now that I have experience in my rear-view mirror, I am grateful for every moment. Resilience is about moments. Every moment, we decide to endure hardships or experience opportunities. Every moment, we decide to step forward on the next steppingstone or fall back at the next stumbling block. Every moment, we decide to embrace growth or reject growing pains. As we move through the years, we have yet experienced, resilience will keep you focused on the significance of the moment.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Managing a team and encouraging high morale is the keystone for a great leader. Leadership is not about success; leadership is about significance. As many leaders strive to be successful, they may not be significant. As a leader peruses significance, they will find true success. Maintaining a team and encouraging high morale is not the goal, it is the result. The first purpose of a business is never to generate revenue. The first purpose of a business is to create value. When a business creates value, revenue becomes a result of the value. The purpose of leadership is not to maintain high morale when managing a team. The first purpose is to create value. Creating value for the team begins with the mindset of serving the team.
Serving the team is providing accountability and promoting responsibility. When the team is responsible for their decisions, they begin to understand they have ownership. When the team is provided with accountability, they begin to understand boundaries, limits, and opportunities. When a team understands responsibility and accountability, they experience security. This gives the leader the opportunity to serve by supporting the team and not directing the team. As the leader and team grow together, the dynamic moves from direction to delegation. High morale becomes the result and not the goal.
