Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alli Lebowitz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Alli, thanks for joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
I spent the last 10+ years of my career working as a clinical social worker in hospital settings. While I always loved the work, I started to feel stuck facing no growth opportunities in that environment. In 2021, to advance my career and to help provide access to care for individuals wanting telehealth therapy, I started working part -time in private practice. I quickly learned I loved this role, and I continued part-time until my life drastically changed in the fall of 2022. It was at that time my brother Sean was diagnosed with cancer and tragically passed away not even two weeks after learning he was sick. This loss profoundly impacted me, and realizing the fragility of life, I decided to stop waiting for a promotion and promote myself. I founded Blooming Orchid Therapy in 2023 to provide individualized therapy services on a full-time basis. Taking this leap and starting a business has fostered such a tremendous sense of empowerment and gratitude in me that I wake up every morning energized to start the day & meet with my clients – ready to stand with them to face their hardships, process emotional pain, uncover thought patterns, and set goals to build the life they have always wanted. Blooming Orchid Therapy was named in honor of Sean, who had a love for gardening and bird watching.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an integrative psychotherapist who takes a holistic approach to therapy. I believe that blending mindfulness training and lifestyle changes with evidence-based practice fosters greater outcomes and creates a higher sense of well-being. I specialize in working with clients who are struggling with mood disorders such as anxiety and depression, and in women’s mental health. Right now I conduct all sessions virtually utilizing telehealth, and I see clients from cities and towns throughout Florida and New York.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Client referrals have assisted in growing my practice, and It is always a privilege and a compliment when a client refers a family member or friend to me to begin therapy.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
My entire career in social work and mental health had been working for large healthcare organizations. Starting my own practice meant no longer having the security of a salaried income, and I was afraid to venture out on my own for some time because of that. After I lost my brother, I knew I needed to make a change, and that ultimately pushed me into taking the leap to create my own growth opportunity and business. Looking back on it, I have learned that betting on myself was the best bet I could have made.
