JB, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Crazy stuff happening is almost as certain as death and taxes – it’s technically “unexpected” but something unexpected happening is to be expected and so can you share a crazy story with our readers
One of the craziest stories I’ve ever experienced as business owner started November 17th during a business trip to Denver. I had gone to Denver to meet with my current business partner to attend an EDM Event for business. The event took place over the course of 3 days at mission ballroom. During our stay we were focused on community relations with the culture as well as marketing for the company. On the third day as we all separated after a successful business weekend, I began my journey back to Greeley, Colorado. As I approached my home, the front door window was shattered, and the door was open. I reached for my cell phone and dialed 911. Police later arrived. As they started clearing up the scene, I was left speechless, heartbroken and devastated with the fact anyone would attack a small business owners’ home. We work hard to maintain, supply, and ship orders on a very timely manner, but when things like this happen, it truly strikes a blow to a company as a whole. I never saw myself going through something so horrific. Hundreds of dollars’ worth of merchandise was taken. Along with the business laptop, iPad, money, and some of my personal items. The Wooks’ Nook was left crippled after this event. We struggled to fulfill orders of all sizes due to our lack of inventory. We truly felt hopeless. A friend reached out to us about wanting to help rebuild the business by starting a GoFundMe charity. Within days, the Denver EDM community came together and raised a sizeable amount of money for our small company. We instantly began to regain our merchandise back. The roller-coaster of emotions we felt at this time was unreal. This really gave us the push to go further in our progression and work harder than we ever have before. We have grown exponentially since the break in. We will continue to work towards our goals and take this as a learning experience and move forward!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I went to my first EDM show in 2019. My life changed after that. I experienced love, compassion, and friendship at that show. The nicest people I’ve ever met. Strangers I had never met before were giving me Kandi, hugs, and all the best vibes. I saw all the rave queens in their outfits, and all the wooks were in pashminas. I thought they were so beautiful even though I didn’t know why everyone was wearing a scarf (lol). After one show, I was hooked. I ate, slept, and breathed EDM. I went to every show that came to Denver. After about four months in to being in the scene, I received my first pashmina. I was so overwhelmed with happiness. I became obsessed with all of the beautiful patterns and colors; they really are just so beautiful. I’ve always been an entrepreneur. So, I started coming up with ways to get deeper in the scene that would benefit me financially. I got some pashminas ordered and sold them out of my trunk at Redrocks before every EDM event. I basically dedicated all of my free time to building an Instagram to reach more people. Shockingly, I created a wave in the Denver community. I got invited to vend at local venues and events. I made this a passion project. I started to broaden my merchandise by teaching myself how to wire wrap and began to learn the business side of it all. The Wooks’ Nook became established in September of 2021. As of now, some of our most popular products we sell are pashminas, wire wrapped accessories, flow toys, blotter art, clothing, and so much more! Our mission is to bring the term PLUR to life. PLUR stands for Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect. We stand by that because that’s what captured my heart in the first place. This planet needs more PLUR. We want to help spread it.
Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
We do sell on our site, yes, but we also sell on Etsy, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. It’s always best to have as many platforms as possible, in our opinion! Some pros of using all these platforms would first and foremost be the potential revenue. Secondly, to maintain the ability to create outstanding marketing outreach for the company. Some other pros would include 24 hour purchasing capability to customers all across the globe. Some cons of having so many e-commerce platforms would be balancing them all simultaneously. The workload can get overwhelming trying to keep stock updated on every site and adding new products identically. In conclusion, with pros and cons explained, being pro e-commerce has been the best option for The Wooks’ Nook and has even given us the best results for our success!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
