We recently connected with Amanda Haselwander and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
It all started in my late 20’s. I was overweight, feeling tired, moody and unmotivated. I decided it was time to take control of my life. I started running and eating healthier. Once I got to my goal weight, nutrition was my new obsession and has been ever since. I read all the books on dos and don’t of the nutrition world compiling a nice library. Even falling into the documentaries.
Though I looked better I didn’t feel 100%. I couldn’t understand if I was doing everything right why don’t I feel right? This is when I got into juicing. Not only did my skin and hair look better I felt better too. I bought a small at home cold press juicer. Life was good. How easy was it to drink a couple of pounds of fruit and vegetables instead of eating it?! My everyday juice became my passion. I became a Certified Health Coach in 2016. I wanted to spread the word on juicing as much as I could, Then starting the brainstorming for C2 Juicery!
Amanda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I believe in getting the best nutrition (real…made from the earth) in the quickest/easiest way and cold pressed juicing does this! In attempt to taking the inconvenience of pairing fruits/vegetables, prepping, sanitizing, juicing, bottling, and cleaning up for others came the creation of C2 Juicey, LLC. I wanted to bring my love for cold pressed juice to others so they could reap the benefits to and not have to put in all the work! So….in 2019 I put a commercial kitchen in my basement and started selling juices through my website and delivering directly to my customers doorstep and/or place of business three times a week (just like the milkman back in the day:)). Did I mentioned cold pressed juicing is a lot of work, just like farmers I am up early (maybe even earlier) mornings, juicing starts at or before 2:00am! My ultimate goal was to have my own storefront location and after hours and hours of planning and thousands of juices under my belt I opened C2 Juicery & Eats in June of 2022 in downtown Prairie du Sac, WI! Continuing with the same goal of making cold pressed juice convenient to get in our grab-n-go coolers and also still continuing to deliver to our local customers that wanted that service to! In addition, we added other healthy grab-n-go items in the form of sandwiches/wraps, soups, and salads along with made-to-order smoothies and smoothie bowls (both having our house-made almond mylk in them). We also offer house-made cold brew, local coffee, a full latte menu, and some splurge treats too! Whether it’s on the go, in our cozy dining area, or out on our quaint patio we love serving our local community our freshly made drinks and food and hope to for years to come, our goal is to stay local to Sauk Prairie and the surrounding areas and other local juice bars can serve their local community!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Cold pressed juicers (the equipment you use to make cold pressed juice) are not all the same and make a huge difference in the quality of product you produce. After owning numerous juicers trying to optimize cost with yield with production with ease of use I settled on using Goodnature Juicers. I started with one of their juicers and then eventually graduated to another one of their juicers. My first juicer from them is named after my grandma “Betty” and my second juicer from them is named after my other grandma “Irene”. My juicers are named after both my grandma’s because both my grandma’s were extremely hardworking women (both living through the depression in their early years) not only raising their families but also in making their living. I had the priveledge of working with both of them in a family restaurant one of my grandma’s owned when I was younger and I like to think some of their work ethics rubbed off on me. Through my years juicing I’ve had several blunders/challenges (just ask my husband:)) at 3:00AM in the morning and having the inspiration of both my grandma’s right in the kitchen with me has always helped me push through ,they didn’t always have it easy and nor will I!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Everything happens for a reason! With starting with a commercial kitchen in my home and offering delivery-only my customers had convenience in buying my cold pressed juice. Through customers tasting, talking, and having results whether it was more energy, weight loss, helping the immune system, and/or getting off a medication many regular customers noticed results and enjoyed the different juices at the same time, this built our reputation! Juicing isn’t a quick fix but it’s a key component for those seeking to improve their health and/or achieve optimal health. Cold pressed juicing companies and their products are not all the same (there are many variables) but C2 Juicery works tirelessly to create our cold pressed juice flavors to the best of our ability and we hope our local customers continue to taste this!
I truly believe starting small was key for me. Yes, I wanted a store front location right away but if I would have jumped into that right away I think I would have drowned in it as I would have had to become good at juicing and also have all the other products I offer. With starting with delivery-only I was able to focus on becoming great a juicing and really hone in the skill so moving into my store front I was already set for this! Also, with starting as a delivery business I was able to get that down to a science, whereas, if I would have started with a store front right away I don’t believe I would have ever had the time to learn/setup my delivery side of the business which is still a solid part of our business.
