Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cydney Huddleson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cydney, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
It all started in my senior year of high school. I developed acne and had no idea what to do about it. I removed my make-up and washed my face every night – diligently. Nothing ever worked. I was doing all the wrong things to try and heal my skin (ex: putting toothpaste on my breakouts…yikes).
I finally decided to make an appointment to see a Dermatologist. She prescribed a topical medication and an antibiotic to help heal my skin. Fast forward 2 years of being on both medicines, I discovered the pigment in certain areas of my body started to turn a deep blue, purple color. I had a biopsy done and the doctor told me that the antibiotic was slowly eating away the pigment in my skin. I was shocked, embarrassed and a little outraged that I let this happen and didn’t listen to my body. I left the doctor’s office and vowed to never take medicine to heal my acne again. I was determined to figure out how to clear my skin myself.
Later, I went to school to become an esthetician to not only heal myself but others too.
The goal was never to just clear my skin – the goal was to become an esthetician, clear my skin and educate others on how to take care of their skin.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Cydney and I am an esthetician and acne specialist located in Columbus, Ohio. I started my business, Holistic Skin Studios, to help educate others about the skin. I believe education is important because there is so much information online (correct and incorrect) about our skin. The first thing I ask my clients when they come into my treatment room is “what is your current skin care routine?” I help recommend products if there are any gaps in their routine or make modifications accordingly. I help solve whatever skin issue or concern they have. Whether that be hyperpigmentation, a damaged skin barrier, acne, etc.
I want the readers to know I genuinely care about every single one of my clients, and potential clients’ skin. When you walk through my door, my full focus and attention is on you and your skin. Always.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been and continues to be client referrals. If you are good at what you do, people will notice and they will tell their friends and so on and so forth.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
About 5-7 days after one of my clients receives a treatment from me, I will reach out to them via text (if they consent to being texted) and ask how their skin is doing. I believe this adds an extra layer of personalization that can get overlooked in the industry. Small actions like a simple “how is your skin doing?” text can make a huge difference. We have to work as a team to accomplish great results.
