Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Reese Royal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Reese, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Learning the craft has been like living my dream. I have always been able to for singing but once I entered the studio for the first time I began learning my craft. Over the last five years, with my brother Royal T as my business partner, we have been able to build Royal Truth Entertainment. Our company consist of a radio show, variety show with spoken word, music & comedy plus music written & sung by me. Through trial & error, I have been able to nurture my craft in singing, songwriting & hosting a radio show. Presently I have released 8 EP’s with great success overseas in the Netherlands & more. Our variety show is on it’s third year & is expanding. My radio show “The Royal Truth” on Little Raleigh Radio is on it’s fifth year & 137th show. I have a hit single out now called “I Won’t Leave” at the same time finishing up my 1st Album. But I feel I am still learning & loving it!!
Reese, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Reese Royal. I have been singing my whole life but just recently over the last 5 years have been giving the .opportunity to live my dream & home my craft. When I started I wanted to bring R &B back like Uncle Charlie Wilson & Coco Jones has. Then I realized that I did not want to box myself into one genre. I have found success with songs like “Groove” in Japan & “Petty” all over the world in over 15 countries. I landed my own radio show from an interview on Little Raleigh Radio. Then I enlisted my brother Royal T, an author Starzpen & fellow radio host Aisha Anderson to be part of this journey with me. And like I said before we are on our 137th show. Then after hosting a comedy show, I was asked to perform then later take it over. I renamed it “Love & Laughter” then revamped it with spoken word, music & comedy with the mission to feed your soul with love & lengthen your life with laughter.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect is creating new music. I understand artist like Adele & Mary J Blige a lot better. My music allows me a place to put certain emotional situations I have been through. Once you have wrote & sang the song , you are able to leave that feeling you had in the song. It’s really like therapy. When my heart was broken I put all of those emotions in the single “Alone”.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Hate & self hate is a big driving force in today’s society so I want to bring back “love”. If we take the time to love ourselves more then we may be more willing to give it & receive it. Happiness is not an result, it’s a choice. If we find this in ourselves maybe we can find harmony down the line.
