Our community is fortunate to have so many brilliant, insightful entrepreneurs and creatives and so many of them have front row, ground level seats that allow them to see emerging trends before the so-called experts, industry leaders, etc. We wanted to create a space to connect members of our community where they could share these insights on trends and opportunities they are seeing.

Fashion is becoming more and more of a people-centered industry. Historically, it was all about the product, garments were created with a specific vision from a group of innovators, tastemakers, and the rest of the world would accept that as the coming trend – focusing on the products and how to wear them, even if they weren’t quite right for one’s body. But that isn’t the way it works today. Read more>>

As the Creative Director of Soundry, a company that curates playlists for businesses, I’m regularly asked ‘why don’t restaurants and hotels just use Pandora, Spotify, satellite radio or even their cell phone?’ Why do the best hotels and restaurants in the world still universally use human-crafted playlists, while Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolutionizes every other aspect of life and work? So many of the current trends in the beauty industry echo the changes happening in our social and political climate. The importance of diversity is more evident than ever and beauty standards have shifted to reflect that; from ethnicity, to age, to size, to gender, to culture, the importance of representing all individuals is more sought after and prioritized than ever before. I think the biggest trend I see in the industry of photography, is the movement away from those that truly understand the principals of photography, finding interesting subject matter and composition that supports a concept or a vision, leveraging the cameras technology and settings to capture compelling imagery. The biggest trend is using short form video marketing to sell products and services on social media. In 2020 when I was first introduced to TikTok, it didn’t make sense to me about selling products with 15 second videos and no one was talking about it. I had to test it by myself for about 9 months. As a result things really exploded and 3 years later all of social media has shifted to short form video marketing. Read more>>

Greenwashing has absolutely taken over the agricultural industry. Everywhere you look you see different labels of “Non-GMO” “free range” “grass fed” “cage free”. Every year there seems to be a new label coming out. While these may seem helpful to the consumer, producers have found back door shortcuts and roundabout ways to qualify their products under such labeling without really providing a superior or eco-friendly product to the purchaser. One of the biggest trends that I see in the modeling and influencer industry on social media is the “self-care” and “self-love” narrative. My concern with this is that it only takes care of the exterior things. It tends to your hair, your nails, your skin, if you get facials, your muscles if you are going to get a massage, but it doesn’t take care of the root of things that cause stress, or that cause us to need a relaxing spa day. Some of the biggest trends we are seeing in the industry, is the trend toward automation. Restaurateurs are fighting higher food and labor costs. An opportunity to reduce labor costs by introducing efficiency at the ordering level through automation and other tools. This is not to say a reduction in personnel per se, but rather an opportunity to re-purpose individuals, especially allowing MORE focus on the customer and concentrating on the service and hospitality aspect. The biggest trends I am seeing in my industry is everyone wanted to work on legs and no one cares about working on any other body part. I personally do not like the trend. My concern about it is, people that are new to fitness or are not as knowledgable about the topic not only will hurt themselves, but hurt others as well. If you go to instagram and just go to the explore page 99% you will see is glute/leg focus exercises and nothing more. Read more>>
