We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Danielle Holloway a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle , thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Fashion has always been apart of me. I love expressing myself through fashion but it was hard finding fashionable clothing for my size. I started to dip and dabble in sewing to make cute pieces for myself. I also had to see if I could stick with it. I really enjoyed sitting behind the sewing machine and making things. I knew my services were needed and I had no choice but to pursue sewing; but I still wasn’t quite ready to jump into it. I made myself a few more pieces and wore them out. I received compliments every time. When I would mention that I made what I was wearing, many people were interested in purchasing. And yet I still wasn’t ready to sew for others. I then started making clothing for my mom and sisters. My niche was and is women’s fashion and I had the ultimate luxury of having multiple women in my family. They all have different body types and styles. I used them to help me grow in my sewing craft. Each one of them challenged me creatively. That allowed me to not only grow, but build confidence. I was now ready to make things for other people outside of my family. I knew I had truly developed the passion and desire to do what I love which is sewing…creating!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the owner of Dsignher Apparel where I specialize in luxury women’s fashion. Everything is custom made, stitch by stitch, by me. I began sewing when I was about 16 years old. I started to really take the craft serious about 5-6 years ago. I specialize specifically in luxury special occasion wear (I.e prom, weddings, birthdays, etc.). I have come to the point in my sewing career where I have taken on multiple out of state clients. I have had a tremendous turnout with my out of state clients. They have been receiving their items with no alterations needed. My brand is size and age inclusive. I service ALL women no matter your age or dress size. My desire is to share my gift and to help women bring their fashion ideas to life.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I must say that I have gained a lot of clients this year from my YouTube channel. I was so scared to record myself sewing. I knew that I had not attended a “traditional” fashion school and didn’t want to be critiqued by those that did. I stepped out on faith and started creating videos. From there, clients would begin to follow and message me on my other social media platforms. Believe me I am no where near where I need to be in my social media presence; but I have found something that’s has brought me more clients. With consistent uploads, I know that my numbers will skyrocket. I used to constantly worry about follower counts. I now focus more so on my views. Everyone will not follow you but they will definitely watch. Do not be discouraged by low follower counts. Trust me, you’re still being seen.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My ultimate goal is to become a custom clothing manufacturer. I want to be able to help other business owners draw up designs that they would want to offer to their clientele. I want to be able to create custom bulk order for other growing retailers. I want to share my craft in as many ways as possible. Hopefully, I could one day even expand my business to cater to mens fashion as well.
