We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful S.L Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with S.L below.
S.L , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about the best boss, mentor, or leader you’ve ever worked with.
The best boss I ever had is myself. Once I decided to bet on myself and take the risk of becoming an author my life changed for the better. I was able to take my plan from my thought to physical product the way I wanted. I took all my years of networking and put the right people in place to get my vision across the proper way.

S.L , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Since 2020 I’ve been a published author, my first book; “Animal Instincts: The Urban Jungle” became an Elit Gold Medal Award Winner that year for the best novella. Then my daughter Shelby and I decided to write a children’s book series entitled, “The Adventures Of Shelby Sunshine” which has been nominated for the 2023 Moonbeam Awards. Recently I released, “Justice For NeKeisha: A Father’s Pain” with co-author Kalvon Hawkins which is a true crime novel based on the murder of Kalvon’s teenage daughter. That novel went on to win 2 Elit Awards this year as well.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
At the moment when I knew I was going to become an author I knew I’d be funding it myself. I was employed in the auto industry so I knew I’d have the ability to pay for all of my needs. I didn’t want anyone to invest, I wanted to be responsible for every aspect of my career as an author/entrepreneur.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My penmanship is how I built my respect in the market. My first novella was a fantasy, my second offering to the industry was a children’s book series with my daughter based on her life. Then my last offering was a true crime novel. So in the last 3 years I’ve released books across three different genres, that’s thanks to my penmanship.
