We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Betthany (Beth) Thomas, PharmD, RPh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Betthany (Beth), thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
One of the most heartwarming stories that I can share is about a woman who used the information from one of my nutrition workshops to completely transform her mind, weight, and even her marriage! When she first reached out to me, she told me about a hormonal condition that makes it really hard for her to lose weight. She was pretty much ready to have weight loss surgery and had been feeling stuck and miserable at the same weight for months. She was under severe stress at work, low on energy, and had tried every diet imaginable to lose weight.
This awesome woman started applying my #1 BMT consistency principle for permanent weight loss transformation: making the connection between what she was eating and how she felt after ate it. She also began using my simple 3-part Freedom Food Formula to craft her meals. She noticed that her cravings were reduced, she was fuller, and her energy increased. Her husband said that he noticed changes in her personality, and her kids were excited because she no longer was so drained that she had to crash on the couch after work every day. She began playing with her kids in the evening.
This amazing woman lost close to 25 pounds in about 3 months, and when we last spoke, she had been maintaining that loss, which is incredible! After her weight loss, she shared the following words with me:: “I don’t feel like I’ve been run over by a truck all the time. Before, when I got home from work, I’d plop down on the couch and I would be so tired and feel like I couldn’t do anything else for the rest of the day. And now, I feel like I have the energy to go all the way into the night. So, it’s definitely been life-changing! I can’t even explain how different I feel. I’m not feeling like I’m walking around with chains holding me down, fighting against lethargy, and being so tired. I love that feeling; I’m eating the stuff that my body likes and what it needs.”
I am so proud of her and feel so blessed to have been able to help her on her journey. Seeing transformations like hers is what fuels my passion for my business!

Dr. Betthany (Beth), love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My passion is helping busy women (specifically those with 30+ pounds to lose) permanently transform their weight and lives. I do this by teaching them to harness the power of food through my consistency-focused coaching program, the BMT Breakthrough. I love to debunk common weight loss myths that aren’t serving women so that they can find freedom with food.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Identify your mission, values, and priorities as a health and wellness business owner and remain true to them. Record them and keep them someplace visible so you can refer to them often and so that you never forget your ’why’. This will help you on those hard days when you want to quit or you’re tempted to do something that may not align with your business vision. There is so much “noise” in the health and wellness space, and it’s easy to get bogged down, comparing yourself to other people.
Remember that you have to believe in what you’re doing to be successful and that your business should reflect your unique personality and style.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
My firm, yet loving, coaching style has definitely been the most important factor in me getting glowing testimonials from my clients and subsequently establishing myself as a leader in my field. I always remind my clients of the true definition of consistency and reiterate that consistency is not perfection. We celebrate wins everywhere: scale and non-scale, habit changes, and anytime they do something new or different to move themselves forward on their journeys.
Additionally, I keep the lines of communication open and always seek to get clarity on how my clients are feeling. The feedback I’ve gotten from my clients has helped me build and tweak my 5-phase overwhelm-free, foolproof coaching system, which is unlike any other program on the market!
