We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lauryn Eaddy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lauryn, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Taking a risk includes going beyond your comfort zone. Risk does not always involve taking a risk for a job. Taking a risk does not always involve moving to a new place or a new environment. Taking a risk does not always include taking in a new relationship or connection.
Taking a risk means going beyond what you used to in any aspect of life to get where you want to go regardless of what you have been used to. Regardless of what you have been taught or influenced by your parents, your environments, or others in your past and present. Nobody knows what you want or need to do to get where you want to go and that’s okay. It’s not for them, it’s for you! Taking a risk is necessary for you to grow in life and to be truly happy in life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For folks that may not know me, my name is Lauryn, and I am an Entrepreneur, Social Worker, Office Manager, and an all-around Hottie. As a small-town girl, growing to a well-rounded woman, living in a small town, there was a lot of limited experiences and exposure beyond Lake City and the PeeDee area. Leaving Lake City and going to college, was the foundation of the beginning in the Self-Love/Self-care and Health and Wellness industry.
In college, I majored in Social Work at a Bachelor and master’s Level at the age of 22. During this time, of course I was a full-time student, working full-time, and being an intern full-time. It was a lot personally, on top of trying to balance relationships and friendships, and still enjoy myself and my college experience. But even though I was doing all of that, I did not have the motivation at all. I told my friends and teachers on a consistent basis that I was dropping out because towards the end, it became very much overwhelming and draining. On top COVID and the pandemic made it worse because we were completely online and isolated during my last 2 years of college and I knew if it had an impact on me, I know it had an impact on other college students all around the world.
In 2020, I started my brand You Are The Inspiration which focuses on helping girls, teens, and women of all ages on their self-love/self-care journey. As of right now, I am providing clients with custom affirmations that they can read and speak those affirmations to themselves in their daily lives. I have previously hosted a Self-Love Baddie Brunch in collaboration with Baddie Boss University. So I am looking forward to hosting more events with women, coming together, and showing each other love, support, and empowerment.
In future tense, I am looking to take You Are the Inspiration in a different way that is still going to accomplish the goal to help women on their journey, but beyond affirmations in various forms. But throughout this journey, I would say that I am proud of my brand, and I am making an impact on others. Especially in the self-love aspect because of having my own experiences lacking self-care/self-love and having the courage to want to build others like I would love for someone to encourage and help build myself.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One main lesson that I had to unlearn was that I wasn’t deserving and learn that I AM deserving. I needed to unlearn and change my mindset because the experiences that I had when I was younger were not going to be my experiences in my adulthood. Due to growing up in a household with my mom being a single parent and her experiences as a child and adulthood had an effect on me growing up.
Her mindset influenced me while I was growing up because she often talking about struggling, making ends meet, and having to do everything by herself as a single mother. She was always in survival mode and that’s all I felt as though she knew how to do operate and respond during that period of time. I had to realize that my mom was just trying to survive and didn’t have the patience to deal with anything else besides that. Also giving the fact that she also grew up in a different time period and was not given the things that I needed as a child, yet along growing up. I loved her back then and I love her more to this day because she did everything that she could for me and my sisters with what she had. She made plenty of sacrifices that we may and may not know, but I am grateful for it all because, all my experiences taught me that I had to unlearn and relearn to be able to give myself things that I needed, wanted, and deserve as a child because it played a lot of roles in my connections with others over the years.
Relearning that I am deserving of love. I deserve protection. I am deserving of nurture. I am deserving of abundance, and I am deserving of everything that I want and need for my highest and greatest version of me. And I want to be able to pour that back into my mom, our family, my future family, and future generations.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I would say that the most effective strategy that works for me would be posting motivational/inspirational posts and telling my story. Throughout my journey of social media, I’ve posted about my college experience, my self love journey, my hot girl activities, personal things, just things that I feel as though my audience could relate or be interested in.
But currently, I am looking forward to continuing to post similar content but in other forms that me and my audience can relate and connect on and off social media. Plus, I want to create more content that relates to my current journey because I am in the season of finding my tribe and empowering women as well on their journey to find theirs.
