Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Denise Wedderburn. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Denise, appreciate you joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents migrated her from Jamaica in the early 1980s. They were married and wanted a better life for their future family. My parents gave us lots of opportunities that they weren’t able to have back home. However, life wasn’t easy when it came to things that we desire. We had to work really hard. Like I remember for prom, I had to pay for everything because my parents didn’t really understand what prom was. I got a little movie theater job and paid all my bills that senior year, including getting my prom dress made. That made me realize that if I wanted something that wasn’t a “necessity” I had to work hard for it. I stayed with the job that summer until I wen to Texas State University that fall for freshman year.
Working hard stayed with ,me throughout college and into adulthood.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a makeup artist for the last 14 years I co-own a beauty studio with my sister
I am a new real estate agent
I am a IFBB Pro bodybuilder
I am proud of all my achievements.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
We obtained the salon in August 2017. With my sister Janice. My aunt provided my first $20K check to invest in our salon. This was the best thing that happened to us. It allowed us to redesign the salon in 5 months. And we opened in January 2018.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Treat your current clients just as important as new clients. The best way I get new clients is from referrals. In any business, it is, most times, the way you make clients feel that will allow them to refer you.
