We were lucky to catch up with Eric Block recently and have shared our conversation below.
Eric, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Mission: To educate people and communities on the implications of systemic/pathological inflammation and how to combat various symptoms using nutrition and a wholistic approach towards well-being.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Background: B.S. Kinesiology
M.S. Health Administration
Currently enrolled in a MPH in Nutrition program at Temple University to become a registered dietician and pursue my PhD in nutrition.
I have 15+ years experience both as a competitive bodybuilder as well as assisting others as a bodybuilding prep coach..
I left personal training during the pandemic to start my own brand “Body By Block.”
I have numerous cases, when I’ve assisted people with lowering A1C, plasma glucose, systemic inflammatory markers, and living a healthier life.
Additionally, I have the fortune of working with athletes where we focus on speed, strength/explosiveness, and muscular endurance ranging in ages from 5-6 year olds (youth leagues) through post college (professional leagues both domestic and overseas).
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Lesson: by consuming less calories a person will lose weight.
New outlook: understanding the pathways and interplay between our own biosynthesized molecules and the molecules we consume via foods and drinks.
I took a deep dive into the biochemical reactions responsible for high blood sugar, elevated cholesterol and blood pressure, as well as how systemic inflammation contributes to body composition.
Using a scientific-based approach, I utilize the chemical constituents in food as opposed to counting calories to help people achieve their goals.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I began working 80-90 hour work weeks as a personal trainer in a corporate gym.
I helped an average of 12 people per day, 7 days a week.
I saved enough to leave the company after 2 years (at the start of the pandemic) and began pursuing my personal brand & business.
