We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jackson Droze Warren a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jackson Droze , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
When I graduated from The University of South Carolina, I moved back to Charleston with no job and one weekly bar gig. I never thought my dream could become my full time job, until I realized what effort was needed to do this.
My life did not change until I treated music as not only my hobby, but also my career. This meant scouting and reaching out to venues from 9-5PM, then practicing and writing till I fell asleep. Although this was a risk because I did not work a part time job to supplement my income, the strategy payed off in the long run. Once I got into a routine of doing this everyday, I saw my weekly gigs quickly grow from one to four, and music had now become my full time job.
My business growth stayed consistent because my routine and determination did as well.
Jackson Droze , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Jackson Droze Warren and I’m a musician from Charleston, SC. I have been a full time musician since 2021 and play in the band Droze & the Drift. Looking back on these two years, it is fulfilling to see how the constant grind and hard work has paid off. I first started out playing solo in restaurants and hotel lobbies, and now get to do ticketed concerts in front of hundreds of people with my friends.
I learned early on that the only route of success is taken through complete dedication. Although my income was gained through cover music, my true determination was in my debut EP ‘to be a bird’. I put my complete heart and soul into this project, and I was shocked to see how well it was accepted in the community. Since my EP release in 2022, I have played several major shows and have recorded a debut album with the band.
Music has always been my greatest passion, and although it was a great risk, having music as my career is a dream come true.
I graduated from The University of South Carolina with a Sport and Entertainment Management degree, and I believe this sets me apart from other musicians. Once I realized I wanted to work in the industry, I began studying and completely immersing myself into music. In the long term, this obsession has been very beneficial to my career.
I am most proud of our accomplishments over the past two years, but I am especially proud of the support we have gained in the community. I am born and raised in Charleston, SC, so to find success in the local music scene means the world.
I am looking forward to what the next two years of my career has to hold.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I am constantly writing new music and trying to develop better as a musician. The belief that “I haven’t written my best song yet” continues to drive my creative journey. I am still releasing songs I wrote over 3 years ago, and do not see myself slowing down or stopping anytime soon!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Social media has helped us gain a larger audience and highlight moments from our career, but constantly performing and building our brand has been our most effective strategy. We have built our resume up over the past year, and use this leverage to garner new relationships with venues.
