We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Hannah Burleson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Hannah below.
Hannah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about your team building process? How did you recruit and train your team and knowing what you know now would you have done anything differently?
I’ve been an entrepreneur since I was 12, that’s when I started making business cards and doing hair out of my parent’s basement—so being an entrepreneur has always made sense to me and been “in” me. However, at that time entrepreneurship was more like a “hustle” and a means to buy the shoes my father wouldn’t :) I became a business owner 8 years ago and at that time everyone thought I was crazy! In my first salon there were 3 other stylists other than myself and although we all got along fairly well there was not a “team” atmosphere—but that was my fault. I still operated like a solo mission. I’ve always been independent (to a fault actually) and that carried into my business. I was so used to doing things on my own, I felt like I HAD to be and do all. I played every role in my first two locations; from electrician, to plumber, to interior decorator, to accountant, to receptionist…and the list goes on. Some of the decision to be the “jack of all trades” came from our financial bandwidth…we couldn’t afford to be fully staffed, and then some of the decision was admittedly…ego. You know the “I can do it better”, “no one can do it like me” syndrome.
It wasn’t until SNATCHED Beauty Bar grew and the vision for it became even bigger and clearer that I had to come to grips with the fact that we could NOT and would NOT go any further without a TEAM! And that’s when I hired our part time salon manager Mecca— who also happens to be my sister-in-law! I was nervous…actually SCARED because I was finally relinquishing control (well some of it haha—I’m a work in progress)! Mecca’s role is constantly evolving and it has been a huge help having her on board, as we grow I look forward to the day where she is integrated at a full-time capacity. We have grown from a team of 4 in the very beginning to a team of 9 including myself—and believe you me, there were periods where it was JUST me! I am so grateful to be able to say that I am surrounded by a TEAM, have a salon manager, have a Rolodex of resources for maintenance, have an awesome cleaning company that I also consider a part of the team etc.
SNATCHED is in growth mode and I look forward to what’s to come, the moves that will be made will require me to release even more control and let go of ego completely. I have been able to not only acknowledge and accept that I can’t do it alone but I find joy in it now…I—we NEED people to grow, and that is OKAY! The most successful business people understand the importance of teams, teamwork, partnerships, a TRIBE and that they are truly better “together”.
If you’re out there and you want to “do it by myself” “I want it to be all mine” “I want something of my own”, I hear you, I feel you and I’ve been you! Do NOT underestimate the power and even the monetary value of partnering and/or building and creating a team.
A special salute to my person…thank you for everything along the way..and I promise to never ask you to paint an entire salon again orrrrr install the flooring again…I think ;)
To my “team” I appreciate you! I love you! I thank you! And GOD….you did/do/are doing that!!!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

Our Beauty Bar has a price point for everyone and is centrally located in an area easily accessible and comfortable for most of the residents and visitors of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Now a little bit more about me… I’m Hannah aka…HB! I’m a master hair stylist, lash artist, instructor/mentor and PROUD owner of SNATCHED! Beauty Bar, Safi Hair & Skin Care, Cosmetics by HB, and E.C.E Academy..whew! That’s a helluva sentence! 😂
I’m made of a lot of layers but at the root, I’m someone who is CALLED to SERVE and POUR into others and help Enhance, Create, and Elevate along the way!
In addition to being in the beauty industry I have a Master’s in Counseling and am a Human Behavior Specialist–yeah I know a real life “Hair-apist”!
What all this means is that I have been blessed to merge all of my passions in my day to day. Whether it’s doing someone’s hair extensions, lash extensions, doing a lash training, or doing one-on-one coaching…I enjoy seeing the smile on the faces of those I serve. I enjoy seeing their growth either physical, mental or spiritual. I enjoy just being a part of their process!
I thank GOD for his hand in my vision, manifestation of my dream and the strengths and gifts I’m given daily to make it happen!
Oh! I almost forgot….I love wine! I love a good book! And I have the cutest yorkie-pom “furbaby” and the most adorable daughter known to man! 😘
Peace, Love & Healing
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I did it wrong…do NOT be like me! I self funded everything initially and then I learned the power of financing and business credit. I repeat…do NOT be like me!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Business is not easy, entrepreneurship is not easy, it is not the glitz and glam you may see on social media. There are ups and there are downs, there are ebbs and there flows. And there are things that will happen that are out of your control…COVID is a perfect example of this. COVID happened at a time where my business was doing fairly well and it definitely shook things up for us. The biggest thing we did was making sure giving up was not an option we applied for EVERY grant that was available, made ourselves aware of all of the resources available and did our best to make sure we could and would bounce back. COVID is still affecting us from a business perspective but we’ve made it this far and don’t intend to stop now.
