Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sean Sindhunirmala. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Sean thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our mission at Toja Coffee is to create a positive impact on all stakeholders in the coffee supply chain, offer the finest and most ethically sourced coffee, and make the lives of consumers easier and healthier. In addition to the excellent quality, our coffee has a story behind it from the wild civet and farmers involved in its harvest as well as its interesting history.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a lifelong coffee drinker, I drink coffee on a regular basis and have drank all types of coffee including black coffee, lattes, cold brews, americanos, pour over, drip, French press, and espresso. In Toja Coffee, I offer civet coffee in the form of whole beans and ground coffee with hanging filters. Civet coffee is the coffee that the civets eat and poop out, so it smells stronger, tastes smoother, and is less acidic and less bitter. As our ground coffee includes hanging filter paper bags, no coffee machines are required and making it takes a couple minutes, so our consumers save money and time to enjoy the rarest beverage on earth.
One of the biggest issues with the civet coffee industry is coffee sourced from caged civets who are forced to eat coffee and thus drives them insane. Imagine if your only diet for the whole day was only coffee. It probably won’t make you feel good. Our coffee comes with a certificate that states it is sourced from wild civets and not caged civets. We also went to the farm to see the process of collecting the coffee beans from the poop of the civets in the wilderness. Another issue is coffee that smells terrible and tastes bitter. Our potential customers and customers are invited to take a whiff of our aromatic coffee and nearly all of those who drank it agree that it is not bitter. We are also committed to packaging our coffee with environmentally friendly materials that are reflected in our products.
We are proud to offer one of the most expensive and rarest coffee in the world and to make our supply chain as transparent as possible. Feel free to browse our website and trace the coffee from the farm to the hands of consumers.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Our best strategy is trial and error. Many people from consultants, advisors, and other business owners advise us on various sales channels. As a startup, we test out those sales channels and pursue the ones that generate sales. Consistency is also another important factor to consider to build out the repeat customer base. Our goal is also to get to know and establish relationships with our customers to learn about their taste preferences, and we greatly value both their positive and constructive feedback.
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
Our products are assembled here in the United States. Among the raw materials, the unroasted beans and packaging are imported from overseas. Afterwards, toll roasters we work with roast and grind our coffee that is then transported to a facility to be packaged and distributed. We value our business relationships with our suppliers and toll roasters.
