We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Outcasts The Podcast. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Outcasts below.
Outcasts, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our mission is to share the fun of learning the Cantonese language and create a space to help people feel at home. It is an important mission for us because we’ve felt like outcasts in Macau and in the USA, or anywhere we go. Being third-culture kids it’s hard to find a place where we feel belonged, so we want to create that for others.
Outcasts, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
The founders – Paji and Iasmin, were born and raised in Macau and currently living in the USA. We started this podcast to share our experiences in America as foreigners from Macau. The podcast then slowly became more Cantonese-focused content because many of our followers were interested in learning Cantonese and understanding the culture. Since we both grew up in Macau, we feel Cantonese is part of our identity despite having non-Chinese parents.
We provide humourous, relatable and educational Cantonese/Asian/mixed-race content, to help people learn the language, and provide a safe space to connect to the Cantonese community.
What sets us apart is our mixed cultural background and relatable content.
We’re most proud of our growth to 34k followers during the past few months, and being able to provide a space to help others feel belonged and understood. We’re also proud that we’re able to find our niche despite being outcasts
We want them to know that we’re grateful for all their support, and we hope to provide a platform where anyone would feel welcome. Our followers helped us feel belonged and felt at home, and we want to give them the same feeling.
How’d you meet your business partner?
We met in kindergarten in Macau, and we were friends until college when we both went our separate ways. Fast forward to 2 years ago, we reunited in the USA and started this to feel at home.
