We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Irene Vaksberg a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Irene , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Car accident
Irene , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the business of wellness by accident. Literally was in a car accident that changed my life and was met with having to understand how to advocate for my own health care needs. Doctors didn’t have answers for me and didn’t have many solutions to deal with my chronic pain. I had to find those answers on my own and with the support of my friends that kept looking for alternative solutions to my pain issues. That’s when neurological technology came into my life and that changes everything for me when it came to finding my purpose: moving forward. To help people like me that live in chronic pain and want to find non invasive treatments for it.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My name is Irene Vaksberg .I was born in former Soviet Union, . I have lived in this beautiful country that I called home for 42 years . I’ve been married twice I have two beautiful daughters 4 beautiful grandchildren. . I’ve been a hairdresser for 38 years I live pretty incredible life. Super blessed. 12 years ago every thing changed in just few minutes. I was on my way to celebrate my birthday instead I was in a terrible car accident that left me in chronic pain anxiety depression spasm shaking for hours. At least once a week I would need
Morphine. Drip to relax my body. I lived on a Vicodin Norco Oxsee Cymbalta So many meds that I can’t even remember all the names. Nine epidurals 4 hip injections sympathetic nerve blocks. Took meds to calm my brain that was giving to cancer patients. Had EEGs MRI x-rays. Appointment with Psychologist therapist had 7 inch needles shoved into my nerves. It was exhausted for five years.
Lost most of my business that took years to build as a single mother. Went from living my best life to being a prisoner of my home and my own body . This is how I lived 5 years in chronic pain anxiety depression tingling numbness in my feet leg hands .3 of the 5 years shaking and spasms. Not a good look for a hairdresser. I give up on life . 5 years ago I pray for god to take me away I was done being in a broken body and seeing no future. My daughter was taking care of me and I could not imagine her doing that for the rest of her life . There was no joy in my life. Just bills to pay and very little money coming in . I prayed for God to take me away or send me a miracle that I did not believed in
. I was tired trying things that did not work .i was tired being disappointed with no results. I made peace with my chronic pain When doctors give up on you than one loses Hope completely .
My beautiful friend I found my miracle. God did answer and I did promise him if he does answer I would share and give people and option to feel even just a little bit better millions of people that living in chronic pain. my mission to inspire people with my words and my action . I am leaving my purpose every day, but encouraging people not to give up. The future is bright for me. I am living my best life. From chronicpain to Dancing.
giving up is not an option. Baby steps are on option. What you thought buried you actually planted you for something bigger and better . and In difficult moments we find our mission, purpose and passion and the healing on the whole other level. Stay strong. Keep going. Know that even when you given up on your prayer your faith I need you to dig deep and take one more baby step say that last thousand prayer and know God still got you
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Yes, I’ve been a hairdresser for 38 years. I’ve never worked a day in my life. . I knew I was going to be a Hairdresser at 11 . I built an incredible business as a single mother. . It was my pride and joy that American dream. I build a community for women artist, and whoever else needed to support. . I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
