We recently connected with Nicole Powers and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
As a professional organizer, I have countless customer success stories as my main goal is to help people achieve great results . My background is in nursing, I earned my Bachelor’s degree and then a Master’s degree as an Advanced Practice Nurse so I am very passionate about helping others. Being an organizer, has allowed me to help others in a different way than what I was doing in the healthcare world.
One customer success story that really stands out, is one of my very first clients when I started this business was a middle-aged single woman who had hoarding tendencies. She had paths leading to the various areas she needed to go. Her furniture wasn’t even visible as it was covered with large piles of things. She had worked in a career that left her with limited time since she was always traveling so her home become less of a priority. Once she retired, she wanted to get her home back in order with an end goal to be able to host her out-of-town brother at her home. We worked tirelessly over several sessions going through each area of her home and every single pile. She was able to eliminate many of her belongings and we found a place for everything that was staying.
The downsizing process can be emotionally and mentally draining for clients while they make decisions about what stays and what goes. She did an amazing job and we were able to clear her floors and the furniture so that her house was a home again. She said over and over again, how thrilled she was to have her space back and how she didn’t realize the extent of how all the clutter had been negatively affecting her. Best of all, she was able to host her out-of-town brother in her home when he came to visit, which she had not been able to do in 20 plus years.
When people choose to hire a professional organizer, they are letting you into a very personal part of their life. They are in a vulnerable state and my goal is to always provide judgment free services while helping them achieve their goals within their home. I enjoy developing relationships with my clients that extend long beyond our time working together.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My background is actually in nursing, I have my Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree as an Advanced Practice Nurse. I became a stay-at-home mom after my second child was born in 2107. After having my third child in 2020, I had a desire to return to work. It was during the peak of the global pandemic so reentering the healthcare world wasn’t as appealing. With three kids under the age of 5 at home, I started to brainstorm different job ideas as well as things I was passionate about. I have always loved organizing and design, so when I learned that being a professional organizer was a profitable career, I instantly knew that was what I would do and my business was born.
I provide residential and commercial organizing and decluttering services in Dubuque, Iowa and surrounding areas. I also provide moving services including unpacking, packing and home staging as well as custom space design services from pantries to closets to basement storage. I help people reclaim their space through organizing and decluttering. Part of the service offering, is creating custom solutions and systems to help them maintain the organization long after our session is complete. I also space plan all the product options and purchase it for my client to implement into their space during our session.
I offer very personalized service and remain the face of my business. I have one additional team member but I ensure that I am the person you talk to for the initial consultation and am also present on every job. I want to always know my clients well and for them to feel comfortable with us.
I am most proud of how much I have taught myself in the past few years of owning a business from designing my first website and logo when I first launched, to learning how to use Quickbooks and social media. I still do it all myself, although this year I did hire someone to redo my website and logo. I love being able to combine beauty and function when I am organizing a space and bring calm where there is chaos. Helping people in this way has been unbelievably rewarding and beyond what I ever could have anticipated. I feel so fortunate to be able to wake up and do this job every day, I still love it just as much as I did when I first started. Every day is different, every space is different and I truly love being able to transform spaces and change peoples’ lives in this way.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been Google search. I have optimized my SEO to be one of the first Google search results which has been very beneficial in getting new clients.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
She is a childhood friend of mine, we have known each other since we were about 4 years old. We didn’t really keep in touch during the high school and college years but our parents remained friends. We both relocated back to our hometown at the same time in August 2018 and had children that were similar ages so reconnected through play dates. A house in our neighborhood came up for sale and she and her husband purchased the home so we become neighbors. She is also a naturally born organized person, and always had a desire to do professional organizing so when I told her I was thinking about launching a business doing professional organizing she was an immediate yes! She has been such a great addition and we work really well together!
