We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Becca Halm. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Becca below.
Alright, Becca thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
I have to always work on created things that can set my business apart since the children’s apparel space can be so competitive! One way we have done that, which has been very successful, is the creation of Little Bird Book Club! This is a monthly product where our customers rush to order their “Mini of the Month” and “Cuddle of the Month”- which is either a baby or toddler blanket that is a completely mystery! Once it comes to your door, you get to see what that month’s print is on the blanket AND you find out what the coordinating book will be! We then focus on creating sensory activities and crafts throughout the month for our parents to do with their children to further the lessons they learn in the book and to encourage the connectivity we often can forget about in the business of parenthood!
Further, I recently developed a new sleep bag product through listening to what my customers wished could exist! We spent the past year making samples to create the perfect design, and now we finally are in the patent pending process (we should actually find out this month at some point) to hopefully have a provisional patent and bring this product out onto the market!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
First off, I’m a stay at home mom and a lover of all things child- books, crafts, and childhood magic. During the first Covid lockdown, my husband was stuck across the state for a few months for military, so I was home alone with my son, who was 6 months. That really sparked the time for me to create something for ME that could also truly involve my children. So… Little Bird Bamboo was later born! We create vibrant, childlike, nostalgic prints for our bamboo clothing and also have expanded into other lines that include knit dolls from Peru that are fair-trade, genuine leather moccasins and children’s shoes, adultwear, and children’s hats, and we will be releasing diaper bags before the year is over as well! Through less than two years in business, we have been able to create a community so strong that I’ve been able to get incredible kid’s brands to believe in me enough to let me license their characters for our brand! Those now include Peter Rabbit, Strawberry Shortcake, Chip and Potato, Richard Scarry, the Berenstain Bears, Goodnight Moon, Clifford the Big Red Dog, the Magic School Bus, and most recently, the Smurfs!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
The children’s clothing space is a competitive place, and since we have chosen to not take out loans or have investors at this point, we are always carefully ensuring we are releasing the best items possible and investing money into the best partnerships possible. That being said, sales fluctuate with the economy and with competition, and during out youngest months, there were always times where I wondered if we could get where we needed to be!

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
This is the main mission of our brand and it’s been a huge part of our success! I found I didn’t see children’s brands creating true communities and places for moms to feel safe and a sense of belonging- especially because so many moms don’t have villages these days! We focus on creating connection within our community and really listening and getting to know the people who join it. With our book club, we’ve really been able to further that. I also look for throw-in gifts like stickers, tattoos, scrunchies, special reminders for moms, etc, to always have something going into orders so they feel a true sense of personal appreciation, even through growth! I also livestream on Instagram often so I can speak personally to my members, and we even do giveaways pretty constantly so they always know that they are appreciated and cared about on a personal level!
