We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mike Keefe a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mike, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
What does it take to be successful? Sounds like a pretty easy question. Most people would say the answer is simply hard work. I would agree with that but it also takes loyalty, dedication, and the desire to aspire.
Mike, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started Mikes Chicken Salad in the middle of the Covid pandemic. My wife and I both lost our jobs and had no idea what we were going to do. With a lot of discussion and motivation, we decided to open our doors.
Mikes Chicken Salad is going on 3 years of business and while It hasn’t been easy, and with God leading us, we did it. We have grown a successful company. We try very hard to have the best product, reasonable prices and customer service out there.
We found that many customers are selective with their chicken salad but our finely chopped ingredients and special seasonings seem to hit the spot!
We are proud to be able to provide our amazing chicken salad, our great customer service, our loyalty and our dedication to the public.
Any advice for managing a team?
Managing a team is not simple. My advice would be stay humble and listen to your employees. Allow them to voice opinions, ideas, and issues. Work together to grow your company. Don’t ever think because you are the owner you are better than them. Keep in mind that If it wasn’t for them you wouldn’t have a successful business.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media is definitely the best way to grow your business. We started off making a game out of it. We asked people to help name our meals and the winner would then receive a gift of some sort. Part of becoming a winner meant that you had to like our page, follow us, and tag a friend in our post. Doing that allowed our customers to engage with us and before we knew it we had hundreds of followers. We still have work to do but in the beginning, it was just what we needed.
