Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brittany Neish. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Brittany , thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Consistency is key to achieving success. By committing to daily actions towards your goals, you create a compound effect that generates momentum. In my experience, this has been true for my business journey. Starting What You Do Matters as a side hustle three years ago and now running it full time, I didn’t have all the answers. However, I knew what I needed to do every day. I focused on building my coaching skills and clientele base, driving awareness of my business through consistent content, and building authentic relationships with people who I could both help and be supported by. These daily consistent actions have propelled me towards success.

Brittany , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From a young age, I always knew that I wanted to pursue entrepreneurship and create a business that would allow me to help others in a meaningful way. My passion for personal and professional development, coupled with my experience working with coaches and mentors, made it clear that I wanted to create something that would inspire, motivate, and empower others to achieve their goals.
One of the biggest inspirations for my entrepreneurial journey was my grandfather, who ran his own produce company and showed me the power of hard work, dedication, and a strong business mindset. I knew that I wanted to follow in his footsteps and create a profitable business that would provide for my family and future generations to come.
As I embarked on my professional career, I found myself drawn to the marketing industry, working for prestigious brands like Microsoft and Moen. While I found the work interesting, it never truly fulfilled me, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that my true passion lay in motivational speaking and facilitating workshops.
Over the years, this passion took on many forms, from starting my very first blog, the Career Catalyst Academy, to finally launching my current company, What You Do Matters, as a side hustle. As I reflected on my own life and the positive changes I had made, I realized that the key to success was taking intentional action and making the most out of every opportunity.
This realization inspired me to create What You Do Matters, a company that helps emerging leaders, from college students to mid-level managers, kickstart their careers through job-hunting support, resume writing, interview preparation, and personal branding. I also help these leaders develop their leadership skills, including emotional intelligence, self-mastery practices, and compassion, while also supporting them in their journey toward manager mastery.
My service offerings include consulting, team development workshops, career coaching, job transition support, personal branding, and keynote speaking at conferences and events. I am proud of what my business has accomplished so far, and I am excited to see how it will evolve and grow in the future.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
What You Do Matters is a business venture that started as a side hustle nearly 4 years ago and now, I’m excited to say that I’m embarking on this journey full-time. It’s been a long time coming, and I’m thrilled to finally take this step.
While working in the corporate world, I always knew that I would want to fully jump into entrepreneurship at some point. However, I also knew that I needed to skill build in areas like sales, coaching experience, etc. Having it as a side hustle allowed me to experiment and invest in the business in key areas like web design, without having to worry about finances because of my corporate gig.
As I continued to gain confidence and experience, along with my clients, I knew it was time to take the leap and fully commit to my business. It was a scary decision, but one that I’m so glad I made.
Starting a business is never easy, but with the right mindset and determination, I knew that I could make it work. I spent countless hours researching and learning about the industry, networking with other entrepreneurs, and investing in the necessary resources to make my business successful.
Now, as I embark on this new adventure, I’m excited to see what the future holds for What You Do Matters. I’m confident that with my skills, experience, and passion, I can make a positive impact on the lives of my clients and the community as a whole.
Starting a business takes courage, patience, and hard work, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. As I look back on my journey, I’m grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and for the support of those who have believed in me. I’m excited for the future and can’t wait to see where this business takes me.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
As an avid reader, I always have a long and mighty TBR (to be read) that spans a variety of genres. I believe that inspiration can come from anywhere and I’ve found that to be true for inspiration that has sparked positive action in my personal and professional life.
I have a particular interest in leadership and psychology and have found books like Radical Candor by Kim Scott to be incredibly insightful. This book taught me the power of understanding each person’s individual aspirations and catering my leadership to their needs. Another favorite of mine is The Gift of Imperfection by Brene Brown. This book taught me the importance of embracing our flaws and leaning deeper into vulnerability, skills that have helped me build genuine relationships with my clients and partners.
However, it isn’t only business books that have inspired me. I find that even fantasy books like the Harry Potter series can teach us a lot about leadership and friendship. For example, the character of Dumbledore is a great example of what a great leader looks like. I also recently read Emily Henry’s latest book, Happy Place, which reminded me of the power of our friendships and how they can help us overcome any obstacle.
