EJ , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.

My parents did many things right, but the biggest one was taking the risk of starting a manufacturing business and having the perseverance to see it through. It gives me the motivation and courage to continue on the family legacy of building the highest quality flooring surface the world has to offer.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Our family got into this industry by a combination of interest and skills between husband and wife. My father was a finish carpenter and metal working tool rebuilder. My mother was a modern dancer and dance teacher. Her focuses were teaching kids to have fun with movement and improving athletes game through dance. My father, Edward O’Mara III, built the first sprung dance floor for my mother’s dance studio to provide the safest surface for her students to dance on. I grew up on this floor watching my mother teach. When I turned 16, I began to work for the family business. First, in the office with my mother and then at the shop with my father manufacturing the floors. Today I do everything from helping with production, to picture and video content creation, to overseeing the building of our brand new website launched in June of this year.

I use the sprung flooring to protect my body from surfaces like concrete that would otherwise compress me into injury. I have become passionate about the Sprung Flooring we build through my personal journey with pain. Having experienced severe back pain, I found relief while moving on the support of a sprung floor. It gave me the ability to keep my spine in a good position while not suffering unnecessary pain and further injury. Having used the sprung floor to stand on for years, I am now strong enough to dance, move and weightlift.

We are most proud of the quality and effectiveness of the sprung flooring we provide. From protecting workers in the Detroit Chrysler plants to the kids in local dance studios all around the world, we know that everyone who uses our product is better for it and receive decades of use due to the quality of wood and manufacturing process we use.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

We’ve had a social media presence for almost a decade now and it all started organically with tap dancers. We would share pictures and videos made by our customers performing on their O’Mara Sprung Tap board. After a while, we became known for having the best sound, longevity and feel for any dance floor on the market and started getting requests from professional dancers to have our flooring. We started making deals with these dancers to promote our product on social media in exchange for a discount or free sprung floor depending on their level of exposure they could provide.

Fast forward to just a couple of years ago when I began to see that relying on this content was not giving us what we needed for quality and diversity to be able to grow our business. Being interested in video myself I took a big step into the professional content creation world by investing in quality camera gear to start creating content in partnership with our customers and professionals. This has proven very valuable to have professional content for our website and crisp and snappy videos that fit the social media landscape. We have started to gain followers on social media at a greater speed since implementing high quality content with videos and the engagement has also improved greatly.

We now have a team of people from a graphic designer, marketing manager and paid advertisement team to help us spread the message of our company in a way that resonates and entertains the audience we are looking to reach. We hope to improve our skills as a team over the coming years to make a meaningful impact on our presence across the internet.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

We build floors in Flint, Michigan with hopes of rebuilding the good name of Made in America. We have the highest quality wood panels made for us from North American hardwoods with above industry standard quality. This trend continues into every facet of our business right down to written standardized manufacturing processes. Over time, our quality floors have spread through word of mouth from one dancer to the next. We are known to have the highest quality sprung flooring in the industry.
