Shannon, appreciate you joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?

I do manage my own social media! If you know me, you probably know this has been one of my biggest struggles. Social media and technology is definitely not my strong suit. However, with the help of my amazing business coach, through Summit, I have learned so much and I am continuing to learn, Constantly. One thing about the hair industry- there is always more to learn. Its one of the reasons I love what I do. There is never a dull moment, always a challenge.

One of the biggest things I have learned is to be consistent. Whether its an instagram post a day, or a few things to your story, or both! Consistency is so important. Take photos of EVERYTHING. Take videos. Just try, put yourself out there and try. If you are unsure, find someone to help you. Learning when to ask for help is also very important. Finding my business coach has been a major blessing. She has helped me grow behind the chair, as well as other aspects of my life.

Shannon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Hi! My name is Shannon Kane. I am the owner of Rose & Co Studio, located in Westlake, Ohio! I have been a hairstylist for 6 years and have been a studio salon owner for a little over a year. I have worked in two salons and learned so much in the last 6 years. I decided to branch out on my own in March of 2022. The best decision of my life. For so many reasons! It has given me freedom in my schedule and has open the possibility to make more money, service more guests and create what I want to create! I have been able to focus on a specialty. My guests are loving the quality time we get to spend together!

I specialize in blonding – anything from highlights, balayage to full bleach out/color correction! I love a challenge and I love being able to transform your vision into your hair! Seeing the faces of my guests after we have done a fresh color keeps me going. I love helping people to feel and look their best, giving them the ultimate confidence! When my guests come into my salon, I cater to them in every way. My salon is stocked with beverages, snacks, blankets, chargers…. you name it, I got it! I want my guests to come in and feel at home. I want everyone to know when you are in my chair, I got you. I am here for you. No matter what, I am in your corner.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

The best source of new clients for me has hands down been Instagram.

Learning to be present consistently on social media is huge in the beauty industry. This is something I am constantly working on and trying to improve. My guests are always helping to remind me to take photos! I get so excited for a new project that sometimes I forget the after picture! However, I do get new clients from Instagram! Whether it’s seeing my transformations, or a post from a current guest or a new product in my salon, its always a good day when getting a new inquiry!

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

Great question! So after my first full year being solo, owning/running/operating my own business, I decided I wanted more. I wanted to switch color lines I was using, I wanted to revamp my business in so many areas. I wanted to learn more of the “behind the scenes” aspects of running a salon.

A good friend of mine invited me to join a class she was taking through Summit, an education platform for hairstylists/business owners. During the class, our instructor mentioned she is a business coach. Immediately I was interested. Not only does she work with the color line I wanted to use, but she has mastered the “behind the scenes” aspect I had been longing for. I signed up as soon as I could and have been working with her ever since!

Reaching out for help and finding a small business owner to guide me through the unknown has been life changing. I have a second opinion, I have a teacher, I have a friend, I have a mentor. Best. Investment. Ever. Working with her has changed my business for the better and I am continuing to work with her and grow in every way possible!
