We recently connected with Reggie Blaze and have shared our conversation below.
Reggie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most personally important projects I’ve ever done, was a record early on in my career. The record was titled “Black Roses” entailed the struggles and observations experienced living in the city I grew up in – with drugs, addiction, and crime growing as we grew up, we came to find our own loved ones falling victim to the effects of these things,
This record was dedicated to a friend of mine who passed away, unfortunately to an overdose at the age of 19… I am currently working on getting the record remastered and cleared to be released on all platforms.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into music at an early age, in fact I’d say I was drawn to music since birth. My earliest memories of words are songs/people singing. When I was around 14 an old friend of mine told me I was good at performing when I sang along to a rap song I knew. From that time, I took my ability to memorize lyrics and would perform songs for peers, who often encouraged me to keep rapping, leading me to find a true love for my craft.
When I realized that music is what I wanted to do, I felt as if I had found my true calling in life, and the reason I felt like an average life wasn’t something I was meant to do – I felt I had a greater purpose.
I am most proud of the fact that through all of my adversities, I have continued to push back and focus on the things that I wanted to do – and not what anyone told me to do. I’m glad to have found my talent and passion, and I’m excited for my career in the future, and all the people I will reach through music.
The main thing I want people to know about me is that i speak what i feel – I make records based off of everything from a vibe, to firsthand experiences, feelings, and inspirations, and most of all – I’m looking for longevity over popularity.
“its REGGIE”
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
By far, the most rewarding part of doing what I do, is never having to answer to any entity – especially creatively. I’m allowed to be the me that I want to be, and express myself through records which to some people, will be timeless…
We are forever immortalized through our voices and creations – and can connect people in a way that nothing else in existence can.. MUSIC
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Just keep showing up to concerts, interacting on social media, buying merch when you can, but most importantly just listen to the music! When you find something you like, share that with the people you are around who you connect with, and show support whenever you can!
