We recently connected with Amanda Bell and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
My husband and I started the process of trying to purchase the property in 2013. We had trouble putting together an offer that we felt comfortable with and that the owner would accept. Heartbroken we drove by and stared at the property from outside the gates for 3 years. One day, the owner’s Realtor called and said that we could make an other offer if we were interested. I immediately wrote another offer and submitted it to the listing agent. The owner wanted to meet with us and we came to an agreement to close within 2 weeks of that date. As we left my husband said, this property will need a new name. He came up with the name The Adalea. Ada was his late mother’s first name and Lea was my middle name. It just fit. The day of closing he said “We just bought The Adalea”. I told him before we spoke it out into the world, that I needed to check and see what the meaning was. When I looked it up, it means “In God’s Time”. It was truly a good fit for us.
Amanda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I had kept an eye on this property for many years. It not only is an Event Venue but also our homestead and a horse boarding facility. My sister was an event coordinator at a local church and is just made sense to have her come run the event side of our property. It is truly a family business
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I have other businesses which have created a brand recognition in the community. We do not strive to have every event available at our location. We want to be an exclusive place that has a special feel to it. Not somewhere people have been to events multiple times. Reputation is a constant work and by providing a great level of service across the different businesses, we have found that people like to work with us in all areas
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think COVID brought a change for all businesses whether temporary or permanent. Many venues, like ours as well, have a no refund policy. There are many reasons for this to occur but we found it was being requested more so than not when COVID hit. Many places gave you no refund and did not allow you to reschedule and keep the money as a credit. We offered our clients the opportunity to renew vows at a later date or carry over a credit for a different function. We also found out how important event insurance is especially in times like COVID. It protected not only the venue but the customer as well.
