We recently connected with Shamica Baxter and have shared our conversation below.
Shamica, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the most important things small businesses can do, in our view, is to serve underserved communities that are ignored by giant corporations who often are just creating mass-market, one-size-fits-all solutions. Talk to us about how you serve an underserved community.
College graduates who have difficulty finding a career within their field are extremely underserved. My brand supports these individuals in getting in their career field. I was once a college student who had issues with getting in their field. Once I discovered what it takes to get in your field, I took a vow to support those who were facing what I’d went through. College is not a waste of time, but unfortunately, many individuals have issues with getting in their career field.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, my name is Shamica Latrice Baxter. I have experience with professionally helping disadvantaged veterans, disabled individuals, as we as children with behavioral youth issues. Upon doing this, I realized there were not any individuals, besides colleges, helping individuals get into college. Although colleges have career centers, they don’t have enough people to help each individual student obtain success. Our company helps support college students by creating a tailored plan to aid in their success. What sets me apart from others is I actually faced the challenge of being the student who was unable to obtain employment. They not only get experience when they come to me, they get empathy and relatability.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to learn is so many first generation college students are ‘winging it’. First generation means the first in their family to go to college. Many of us have to figure it out. Sadly, I thought college meant employment. I realized that was not the case. I realized how essential networking and leveraging yourself through knowing how to do an effective resume are.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’ve had times were I had absolutely no money because I’d poured it into my business but I’m being mentored by a program called Operation Hope. I still found the money to get to a conference in Atlanta to obtain a bigger skillset.
