We were lucky to catch up with Jackie Harrington III recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jackie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on would be all of the projects I’ve filmed with celebrity R&B artist Donell Jones. As a little kid growing up in urban areas, little brown and black boys mostly aspired to be athletes or rappers. I knew I wanted to be a creative. To create visuals and to film. When I got my first celebrity client Donell Jones it proved to me that something that appeared to be so farfetched became a reality for me. Someone who I grew up listening to his music I was able to follow him around to some of his events and create visuals. It proved to me that nothing is obtainable, and I could do anything if I stay consistent.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Jackie Harrington III, I am a son, brother, uncle, and friend, but most importantly I am an artist! I model, act, write, direct, and produce. I own a company called J. Harrington Productions where we specialize in film, videography, business promos, voiceovers, and many more. We just started the “My Big Film Festival” which gives filmmakers a chance to display their art in front of many professionals in the business.
I first entered the industry as a wardrobe stylist in my hometown Jacksonville, FL for a gospel artist. I decided that’s something I enjoyed doing with friends and family but not as my professional career. I then moved to Atlanta and became a background actor and stand in for various television shows and movies. I then landed my first tv role on TV One’s Fatal Attraction, got me an agent, and now acting while creating work for my business as well.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Something I had to unlearn was to stop putting my energy towards gaining support from individuals who don’t want to support. Focus on the ones who support and those are the ones that will help my business grow. When I learned this, I started to see a change in business, and it also helped my pride. I was eager to please the wrong people and would be hurt when I didn’t get the reaction I wanted.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to create generational wealth for my family. I have nephews that mean the world to me! With so many things going on in the world and prices increasing I do not want them to struggle as my family and I did. It is my goal to get my family to a place where finances are not an issue, also to do what I love doing every single day of my life.
