We were lucky to catch up with Brock Gill recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brock , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I went to Ukraine during the first few months of the war and bought a motorcycle and gave it to a stranger.
Here is the backstory
I first visited Ukraine in 2019 when i was touring as a professional illusionist. I fell in love with the people there. In February 2022 my heart broke when i saw the first bomb hit Ukraine. I assisted a family in Ukraine to evacuate with their new born baby and toddler. After they lived in my house in the USA for a couple of months they moved to Poland to find a permanent new home to escape the war.
Later in 2022 i decided to go to Ukraine and find ways to put a smile on the faces of refugees and people living in the darkness of war.
My plan was to fly to Moldova and get someone to drove me across the border into Ukraine. Once i got there the reality of war became obvious right away. The first night i was awake to the bombs near the apartment i stayed at. The power of out in most of the country and it was not easy.
My plan was to find and purchase a motorcycle and ride it to a few locations and do magic shows for the families (mostly women and children) who were displaced.
Brock , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have spent 25 hears touring as a magician. I have been in about 30 countries. I have been on some big stages as well us unexpected places over the past couple of decades including the largest tour in the world in 2012 (Winterjam tour). After touring arenas and theaters for large crowd i began to have a desire to go to places that no magic show had ever been. That lead me to villages in the arctic circle, muslim refugee communities, and prisons in Central America and even the city dump in a developing country. I have done some tv appearances including having a documentary on discovery channel amd various other networks.
My latest endeavor is a youtube channel that we just started working on. That’s what i am very excited about
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Serving people is the most rewarding thing. I get to create art or create presentations in various ways and use them to serve people by putting a smile on their face. I have had the opportunity to share hope. I have seen people in their darkest moments hear hope and experience comfort or joy because i spent time serving them.. the key that opened that door to their hearts was my art.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to reach people who are lonely, broken, or hopeless. I am searching for ways to love these people. Loving people is life giving to me. It has eternal impact. It drives me to work hard, to sacrifice, and endure.
