Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Katy Kaumeyer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Katy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission of Omni Media Designs is to support entrepreneurs with the tools and systems to go beyond ‘just a business’; to design their own success, have fun, and create a legacy. But it’s not just a mission, it’s a way of life for me because as a full-time caregiver to my mom and adult-disabled son, I had to design a business that would give me joy by helping others, build financial success, allow for fun, and offer personal freedom. But I didn’t want it to be just a business, I wanted it to help and encourage others while becoming a legacy to leave for my boy.
A few years ago, as I was coming out of a turbulent relationship, I knew I needed a way to financially support myself into retirement. While my part-time hobby as a VA gave me some financial support it wasn’t enough, and it didn’t offer me the freedom to give my son the full-time care and support he required. So, I grew that VA hobby to Online Business Management with Omni Media Designs, where I help others easily build their own passion-based business. Working with women as they transitioned to entrepreneur and business owner, I was told over and over how simple and carefree I made the process, and how easy the tools were to use once the steps were broken down. That’s when I realized I had a knack for making the complicated simple and for helping these successful women create repeatable systems and processes to turn their hobby into a business.
See, as I was building my knowledge base to become the best OBM I could be, I struggled to find cost-effective courses and coaches that could show me the step-by-step process to scale my business. Sadly, those I did find were so complicated and vague, they made me feel small, stupid, and incapable even though I was successfully helping others. Each perceived failure forced me deeper into discovery mode because I knew there were easier ways to explain the processes while encouraging people at the same time. In my rebellious stubbornness, I dove headfirst into creating simple, easy-to-follow solutions for others that I had so desperately searched for. The journey of building my business has become a passion for helping entrepreneurs build and grow their own business that allows them the freedom to be successful, have fun, and leave a lasting legacy.
Omni Media Designs is built on the premise that to empower entrepreneurs to go beyond ‘just a business’, is to remind people how awesome they are and what amazing things they can do for others.

Katy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m Katy ~ I usually introduce myself as a Creative, Design Geek, Strategist, and Squirrel Herder…sometimes I like to pretend I’m a superhero, but really, I’m a single mom to 2 adult kiddos, a caregiver to my mom and adult-disabled son, a thriving entrepreneur, and doing the best I can with what I’ve got. I’m a geek at heart, a big fan of Studio Ghibli, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. Over the last 50 years, I’ve lived in 8 states (including Hawaii), owned 4 homes, lived in an RV full-time for 4 years, camped in 18 of the 50 states, and learned more about navigating the world of disabilities than I ever expected. It’s a lot, I know, I’m just multi-passionate, enthusiastic, and, well – awesome that way!
If you’re scratching your head about the Squirrel Herder thing – as I’m learning to control my obsession with shiny objects and all the glitter bombs that go off in my head, I’m striving to help others do the same. And to make that fun, adventurous, and successful I work to combine the best of simplicity, creativity, and productivity.
Raising two kids, homeschooling both-one with special needs, and building a business, I learned early on how to properly organize my space, manage my time, and become more productive with each project I took on. As I grew my business, I realized how hard juggling all of that can be. I also learned I was very good at simplifying the most complicated steps so my boy could learn easier. That skill translates to helping entrepreneurs learn easier, too. Because I firmly believe a simplified approach is foundational for creating success, both in life and in business, I built Omni Media Designs to be a place where business owners can find templates, courses, and workbooks that make building their successful business easier.
Sharing my knowledge and experiences is how I encourage, motivate, and enrich those around me; that makes me happy and gives me something to be proud of. And although my business branding has changed many times, the foundation has always been the same: finding adventurous ways to help others create success, have fun, and leave a legacy.
I want to empower you, so you never forget how AWESOME you are!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
You know that old saying, “Stick and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”? Now that you’ve leveled up in life, do you still believe it? Did you ever believe it? Living with a verbally abusive narcissist can do some incredibly vicious things to your confidence. I still fight that ugly voice in my head, but each day it gets a little quieter and I grow a little bolder.
Let me explain. For years, I was told how little I had to offer, how nobody wanted my advice, nobody cared about what I had to say, I had nothing of value to offer, and I was worthless. No matter what I accomplished, no matter how many people offered words of love in their testimonials, that virulent voice overruled it all. I listened and believed. I struggled to share my knowledge, I refused to share things on social media because I chose to believe that vulgar voice.
Then one day, I chose myself over that despicable voice. I shared a story about the struggle of being a single mom and running a business. And the comments made my heart melt. I was asked to share my knowledge on a panel. I was invited to be a podcast guest, a guest blogger, and a video co-host. I have even been chosen as a speaker several times. I’ve recently partnered with another special-needs mom to create a virtual summit and support group for caregivers.
All because I decided one day to tell the repugnant voice to be quiet. Each time I tell that pathetic voice to shut up and I hear it quietly voice its disagreement, I grow bolder and more courageous. Is it gone for good? No, but it’s getting quieter as I grow louder.
I offer these truths: abuse is traumatic, healing takes time, courage is a choice, and you are resilient. Keep being you, just a little bit better each time.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When I first stepped into the entrepreneurial world, I had been a stay-at-home mom for 11+ years. Previously, I was a Human Resources Manager for a small manufacturing firm, with about 200 employees.
When you’re a mom, there are certain written, and unwritten, rules you live by to keep the peace and keep your family pleasant. When you work for a big company or corporation, there are certain written, and unwritten, rules you follow to keep your job and keep the workplace pleasant. But I’ve discovered an incredible secret about owning your business… you write the rules.
Want second breakfast at 10:30 am? Write a receipt for it, it was a business meeting. Want to buy glittery pens because writing with them makes you feel like the princess you are? Make that investment. Need a vacation after the weekend? Call it an off-site planning session. People stare at you because you talk to yourself? Point to your earbuds and tell them you’re having a coaching call with an expert!
This was a hard lesson to grasp, but once I realized that all the “normalcies” of a corporate job don’t always apply to your self-run business, it makes the work a whole lot more fun!
