We caught up with the brilliant and insightful James Watts a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

James, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

I make my art to explore the Use of visual language, Through the telling of story’s, ideals, philosophy, I believe that they can be told through a visual language.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am for the most part , I am a self taught artist, born and raised in National City, I loved reading , so it was natural , I wanted to be an writer , I was not very good or did I have the temperament for sitting down and write. But, still wanting to have a voice being a sculptor/artist was a natural fit.I set out to conquer the art world with my 5-10-20 year plan …in 5 years best in the city , 10 years the state and within 20 the US , now I’m just happy to make a good art piece and live this best possible of lives.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Most of my larger projects takes 9 to 18 months to complete , for me being an artist is to maintain passion from start to finish, too maintain the same drive , freshness, joy into each piece is the mark of having professional dedication always ..,,.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

With having 5children , I’ve always had to have a strong day job to fund my life , from art teacher to building manager of a prison, I’ve had solid jobs too support my family and my dreams , knowing that sacrifices have to be made , I but all my free time save family and work , to making art , the plan was to build a solid reputation as a good artist or I say add zero’s to my name , my first years I sold art for 10-100 dollars, 5-10 a thousand, 10 or more 10,000.
