We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nikki Giacara a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nikki thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
My husband and I are co-owners of our personal training business, FiT2NiK, and we have been training clients under this brand since 2013! Having lived in two major fitness hot spots (Los Angeles and Miami Beach), we have worked with clients of all walks of life. Throughout our journey, we’ve realized there is no ‘one size fits all’ answer for any client. We’ve also discovered, realized, and understood that truly being healthy comes from the inside out.
Throughout our experiences together, we developed our patented epsom salt product, epsolution, and are currently in the process of launching the first ever, direct-to-consumer epsom salt on subscription! It took years of training as a professional bodybuilder to develop the specifics of this recovery aide, but it has finally been done, and we are beyond excited to launch!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
With double degrees in Marketing and Management from the University of Colorado, I became a certified personal trainer at the tail-end of my college career. I’ve trained lifestyle clients, ranging from the amateur to the professional level, young and old, and the one thing they all have in common in is, their willingness to learn. I will always educate my clients to the best and highest degree possible, and fully look into every part of their life and how it contributes to their bigger picture. Every body is different, and every body should be treated as such.
I am most proud of my ability to connect with anyone, for any reason. Community is a lost art, and what we try to foster through FiT2NiK is true knowledge on health and wellness through attention to detail and inclusivity of all clientele.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
By becoming the best version of myself, mentally, physically and spiritually, my personal training business naturally boomed. There were no “sales pitches” or “overselling” on social media. When you live and breathe the fitness industry, YOU become your own business card. From there, your credibility is established. And, when you speak about products or habits you’ve developed to be successful, people can relate because “if it worked for them, it’ll work for me.”
With over 14 personal training certifications and 15+ years in the business, once I became an IFBB Pro, I truly felt a shift in my business. Then, creating epsolution changed everything.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Our original plan was to sell epsolution on Amazon for its user-friendly app and built-in marketing. However, as most small businesses will tell you, Amazon is NOT the platform for maximizing visibility and/or profit. Four months into daily calls (180 hours to be exact), and zero movement, we decided to take action.
We interviewed a few different companies who would potentially be responsible for selling our product, direct-to-consumer, but once again, found ridiculous mark-ups and no guarantee they would care about our product more than we would care about our product.
As they say, third time’s a charm, and we shifted into the original model we truly preferred, monthly subscription service, direct-to-consumer, owned, operated, and packaged by yours truly. We’ve acquired our own warehouse, hired an incredibly talented videographer (Content Creator) and a forward-thinking web developer (Creative Director), and are fully managing epsolution ourselves.
From our warehouse in Denver, Colorado to your home, it took a few pivots to get here, and I am so thankful that it did. Nothing is more fulfilling than being the one to personally do the work and watch your product launch successfully.
