We recently connected with Abby Mason and have shared our conversation below.
Abby, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
I became a health coach after a lifelong love of learning and researching how to be the best version of myself. I have four daughters, and they inspire me every day. I want to be an example of how to live a long and full life. After I graduated from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, our family moved from Rye, New York, to Dublin, Ohio. I wanted to partner with a local physician. I knew that as a health coach, I could work with patients to help them implement the wellness recommendations given by their doctor. I connected with a Chiropractor who had a large focus on overall wellness. She wanted to add a health coach to the practice because many of her patients struggled with much more than just needing Chiropractic adjustments.
I started my journey as a health coach in her practice; we witnessed so many patients understand how to have better sleep quality, more energy, stress reduction, improve their relationship with food and find their purpose in life.
I work with my clients individually to know how to create a plan through small and sustainable steps to take back their health. As a health coach, I walk “side by side” with my clients/patients to help them understand how to create a life of health and wellness.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up in a home where locally grown and minimally processed food sources were a priority. That inspired me to continue this way of eating throughout my life. I could see how much more energy I had, how my skin positively responded, and how I could focus better and feel better overall. I spent almost ten years in Real Estate in my early 20s. I poured my heart into it, but my soul was suffering. It was a very stressful career. After my second daughter was born, I left Real Estate and became a stay-at-home mom. I spent the years caring for my growing family and researching nutrition, lifestyle, and mindset for longevity. When my youngest daughter started first grade, I decided to turn my wellness curiosity into a career. I am a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach, AADP Board Certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach, Advanced Skin Sequencing Practitioner, Certified Nutritional Aesthetics Practitioner, and Author. As a graduate of the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy and the Institute for Integration Nutrition, I understand the importance of finding the root cause of a health concern and how to use Positive Psychology to work alongside my clients to help them reach their goals.
As the owner of Passionate Wellness, I coach my clients to understand how to have flawless skin bio-individually through nutrition, lifestyle, and mindset. I have focused on hormone imbalance and digestive and absorption issues to uncover the root causes of skin concerns. Knowing the root cause provides a roadmap for radiant, healthy skin and a robust immune system. I also offer custom skincare programs with formulations based on a client’s ancestry.com and toolboxgenomics.com results. In addition, I am the founder of Rain4est Essentials Skin Care®, a natural and organic skincare line of products.
I created my business, Passionate Wellness, out of my “passion” for longevity. Through years of research, I discovered that it was not a “one size fits all” approach to one’s health. I also found that wellness is more than the food you consume. I applied what I had learned to the lives of my family. I started seeing results in my daughter’s energy, skin, sleep, and focus as we prioritized movement, food sources, relationships, and stress management/self-care. Seeing their positive transition lit me up, and I wanted to share this information with my friends. I decided to make a career of helping people learn how to live their best life.
I specialize in working with highly driven, passionate women ages 35-55 on how to age timelessly from the inside out and outside in. My focus on skin wellness sets me apart from other Health Coaches. Many people suffer from skin issues/sensitivities, as did I in my early 20s. Understanding that it is not just what you put on your skin but also what you consume and what your body absorbs that affect your skin. Your skin is a window to what is going on inside the body. Paying attention to what your skin is showing you can be a guide to improving your skin quality and assist with healing what might be out of balance on the inside.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
After I graduated high school, I attended the University of Alabama. I met my first husband there. I had my first daughter with him. Unfortunately, it was not a healthy marriage. I knew that I needed to put my daughter first. I divorced him and moved from Florida back to Ohio to raise my baby girl as a single mom. I received no support from my ex-husband. Thankfully, my dad took my daughter and me in until I could get on my feet. I found a job as an assistant to a Realtor in my area. I worked hard so that I could provide for the two of us. There were a lot of tears that came with this struggle that I never imagined I would face. I did a lot of journaling and soul-searching to find my purpose in life. I wanted to know what would push me to be the best mom for my daughter. It was not easy, but I realized so much about myself and my strength. Life threw me lemons, and I learned how to turn each situation into lemonade. It is something that I am so proud of. This journey has taught me that I can do anything I put my mind to. I can do this because I know my purpose and live it daily. I went on to become a very successful Realtor on my own. I give everything I have to make my personal and professional life something I can be proud of.
I did eventually leave Real Estate when it became clear it was something I no longer enjoyed. I was so blessed to find my now husband, who has supported me throughout my career. He helped me find my path as a Health Coach. I am very grateful for this journey. It hasn’t been easy, but I found strength I never knew I had. That has led me to a career I am passionate about. I can lay my head down at night knowing I made a difference in someone’s life.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I have found that to succeed in my field; I need to continuously research everything that is going on in the world of wellness and coaching. There is a lot of information about health and wellness, and many people have trouble sorting through what works and what doesn’t. Everyone is unique, and one way of eating and lifestyle doesn’t work for everyone. As a health coach, I can be the person to help my clients find what works best for their bodies mentally and physically. Along with the research, creating a connection with other practitioners and wellness modalities for a referral partnership has helped me succeed as a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach. My clients know that their wellness journey isn’t focused on one area of health. It takes a tribe to support an individual as they navigate how to help their body thrive and be well.
