We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christopher Peterson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christopher , thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I quit my full time salary job with a major corperation to pursue this dream of building my own business. I would think that was a huge risk. So far it is paying off in more ways then one.
Christopher , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started thinking about Montclair Media a little after the pandemic and slowly it has become a reality. I have worked with several businesses in the area and have worked with even more music artists. We have held multiple music events including an event called Splat Fest which hosted 30+ local music acts. Originally Montclair Media started as a sound studio. I then started doing graphic design, photography and music videos for a few music artists in the area. Today I am trying to concentrate on Wedding Videography/Photography, Graduation/family portrait photography and film making. I am currently working on shooting my second short film of 2023. We are based out of Superior Wisconsin / Duluth Minnesota and willing to travel for any video/photography needs.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing clientele in this business is word of mouth. Doing a great job for 1 client usually results in 2 more simply by reference.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I built my reputation by my quality and ability to turn projects over in a timely fashion. Last year I shot and edited over 40 video projects, recorded/mixed over 100 songs for multiple music artists, graphic designed and shot photography for several clients and I’m on the path to do it all again this year. Just last week alone I shot and edited my first short film, did video and photo for a wedding, had a photoshoot for a local restaurant, a photoshoot for a City Council Candidate for Duluth MN, and recorded/mixed and mastered a few songs in between all of it.
