We recently connected with Caroline Klebl and have shared our conversation below.
Caroline, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
I began teaching yoga in 1997, in Breckenridge, CO. I taught at a community college, a mountain spa resort and in a church’s event space. I taught drop in classes as well as 8 week courses. When I moved to Maui, HI after my first trip to Mysore, India to practice with renowned Ashtanga guru, Sri K Pattabhi Jois for the first time, I continued to teach drop in Ashtanga classes in Maui, HI. In 2002, I taught my first international workshops in Vienna, Austria and Prague. I taught Ashtanga yoga first series and intermediate series workshops and Mysore style classes. I continued to teach drop in classes, workshops and retreats for several years. In 2005, I developed a week long yoga teacher training program, which I taught in South Africa, Jakarta, Indonesia and Dubai. By 2007, I developed 200 and 500 hour yoga teacher training programs, which I registered with the yoga alliance. I continued teaching yoga teacher training retreats in beautiful retreat destinations around the world, as well as in San Francisco, Chicago and Los Angeles. Over 500 have students have completed my yoga teacher training courses. I continue to teach workshops, retreats and teacher trainings and am currently developing an online yoga teacher training program, which we filmed in Bel Air, Los Angeles, CA. It has been a wonderful journey into teaching yoga and spreading the benefits of yoga practice. I look forward to teaching even more students in the future.

Caroline, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I trained with Sri K Pattabhi Jois in Mysore India over the course of nine years and received his blessing to teach Ashtanga yoga. In 2010, I completed a PhD in Yoga with the Indian University of Alternative Medicine. In addition to teaching yoga courses, workshops, retreats and teacher training programs, I published two yoga calendars, wrote a book on Ashtanga yoga, produced an instructional yoga dvd and have written articles for yoga magazines.
I offer 200, 300 and 500 hour yoga teacher training courses to aspiring yoga teachers, yoga teachers and all levels of yoga practitioner. My online yoga teacher training program is available to students from around the world, to train at their own pace from home.
The focus of my yoga teacher trainings is the practice of the primary series of Ashtanga yoga, which includes over 70 yoga poses. Additionally, my yoga teacher trainings include meditation instruction, restorative asana practice, yoga philosophy, anatomy and Ayurveda. My yoga teacher trainings provide each attendee with the confidence and experience to begin teaching yoga or improve their yoga teaching. I welcome all yoga enthusiasts and aspiring yoga teachers to attend my yoga teacher trainings.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
On my first trip to India in 1999, I attended Tibetan Buddhist teachings at a Tibetan Buddhist settlement in South India. The Buddha is often times depicted in padmasana, the lotus position. Asana is practiced in preparation for meditation practice, to enable the practitioner to sit comfortable in a meditation position. Additionally, asana practice clears and activates the energy channels, which leads directly to yoga or union with the true self. The teachings of the Buddha, direct the spiritual aspirant to a life filled with an abundance of virtue and the path of the boddhisattva. Since, I was profoundly struck by Buddhist teachings, I continued on a trip to Dharamshala, North India, the home of the Dalai Lama. I continued to attend Buddhist teachings in North India and then extended my trip in a Tibetan Buddhists monastery in Nepal. At this monastery. I was offered to take Boddhisattva vows. The life of the Buddhisattva is to live for the benefit of all sentient beings and assist with the enlightenment of all beings, prior to entering the paradise of one’s of enlightenment.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Of course I would choose the same profession again. I started practicing yoga regularly when I was 18. I had a keen interest in philosophy, psychology, the occult, yoga, meditation, vegetarianism and Buddhism. Naturally, I was drawn to yoga practice and in search of a guru, who could bestow the teachings of yoga onto me. My interest in yoga has grown over the years and I perpetually seek to delve deeper into the practices of yoga and imparting the teachings of yoga to others. As it is stated in the yoga sutras, yoga practice develops four states of awareness, analytical thinking, ananda(spiritual bliss), intuition and sense of the true self. Yoga is a spiritual practice, which cultivates spiritual realization and improves your life experience.
