We were lucky to catch up with Marla Diakonis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Marla, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
After many years of creating products for myself, friends and family, I decided to take a leap of faith and start my own business. Aura Organics came to fruition in the winter of 2021.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a mother to three sons. When they were little I became concerned with certain ingredients that were in baby products, food, household cleaners etc. I began to weed out the harmful chemicals and replace them with all natural things such as essential oils.
I then became a yoga teacher, reiki practitioner and holistic nutritionist. I immersed myself in learning all the natural ways of living and becoming balanced.
Aura Organics offers all natural alternatives to self and skincare products we use everyday. I want people to know that an ingredient list shouldn’t, and doesn’t need to be a mile long to be effective. All of my products are made in small batches with the highest quality, organic ingredients.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I grew up in a small town and still live in a small town. For my business, I think word of mouth has been the most helpful in building Aura Organics. Everyone I do business with and vice versa are such supportive people and we really do root each other on!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Maybe not so much a lesson, but a realization. I have never owned a business. I never dreamed I would I ever own a business. I went into this not realizing how much work it is to get something like this off the ground. It is all so much fun but there is definitely blood, sweat and tears that go into it; and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
