Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Olivia Quantz. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Olivia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Artificial intelligence has been a big topic in the photography industry lately, with Photoshop’s new generative fill tool and other emerging AI tools opening the door to an entirely new way of creating and manipulating images with just a few clicks. While this can be a huge opportunity for artists to experiment and save time in their workflow, it also raises concerns about copyright and ownership. For instance, if I create an image using generative AI, who owns the copyrights to that image? Or if a person took one of my photos and used AI to create a derivative piece, would they be able to claim it as new art? There is a lot of uncharted territory here and many AI tools are still limited, but I’m excited to see how this helps creators explore new possibilities in their work and I think it will ultimately move the photography industry forward, just as other technological advances like digital and mirrorless cameras have done in the past.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve been a photographer for over a decade now, and I specialize in fashion-inspired portraits. I would describe my creative style as moody, editorial, and expressive, and I shoot a variety of genres and subjects including everything from headshots and families to couples and boudoir. The main focuses of my business are to help regular people feel comfortable in front of a camera the way a celebrity or model would, and to show people the transformative power of a professional photograph. A good photo can change the way people see your business, it can create lifelong memories, or it can even change the way we see ourselves, and those transformational moments are what I love creating the most for my clients.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Growing up in a small town that didn’t have many resources for creatives, I had to learn a lot of things on my own. Looking back, I wish I would have made more of an effort to connect with other creatives locally and create more of a community. Living in a big city now, I have the opportunity to get involved with local organizations, go to photo meetups, and connect with other people in my industry to support each other and learn from one another, and that has already provided me with so much value. To any photographers who are just getting started, I highly encourage working with other creatives and using your local community as a resource on your creative journey.
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
Absolutely, I have always had a wide variety of interests and I’m constantly looking for new and better ways to service my clients and create art that is fulfilling to me. Besides individual photoshoots, I also offer printed products, retainer packages, photoshop & retouching services, commercial/product photography, and graphic design. I really aim to be an all-inclusive resource for marketing and give my clients customizable options to fit their specific goals.
