We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Hannah Sapp a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Hannah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
Just recently I had a customer inquire about a sofa that I had for sale! She had mentioned that she got ahold of another vintage seller/shop in Minneapolis looking for a sofa! There were a couple models that she had in mind and was looking out for specifically! This shop let her know that I had recently listed one and told her to check it out! Turns out it was exactly what she was looking for and she ended up purchasing. We discussed how she wouldn’t be able to pick it up until she was in town (she lives out of state but has a residence in MN as well) so we got all of that coordinated. She rented a truck to pick it up and I helped her load it up and off she went!! Very happy customer & she left me an amazing review that meant so much to me!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Hannah Sapp and I am the owner & curator of Century Clash Studio! I am a 26 year old single mom & woman owned small business. Funny enough I kind of just fell into this industry during the first year of covid while switching out some furniture in my house! I was bored and started to shop on Facebook marketplace for some new furniture items and the rest is history!! I buy/sell vintage! my main focus is furniture but I sell & pick up/collect a bit of everything! Some of my other favorite things to sell are vinty home decor, trinkets, lamps + just funky rare pieces with character! my favorite way to source items is through private estate sales/private buys. It is always so so SO special to me when I can talk to the families of the owners of these pieces, ask questions about the pieces & the family themselves, ask if the family remembers where/when the pieces were purchased, etc. most of the items I sell are 50+ years old and have so much history behind them. I like to hear the stories and history & always pass any history on to the next person to own the piece!
I am most proud of myself for finding something I love and putting myself out there. It’s scary to try something new and it was even scarier to try something new during the beginning days of covid, when I was a new mom & I was already so uncertain and weary because my daughter had got very sick and almost died just a couple months before covid had started.. I am proud of the work I have put in to my business, especially while being a full time, single mom. My mom & co owner of this business has helped me so much and has been my biggest cheerleader, the absolute best Facebook marketplace shopper & most willing baby sitter/child care provider to my daughter up until February when my now 3 1/2 year old started pre school!
I’m just so proud of where I am and what I have accomplished as a mom, creator & small business owner in the past few very already difficult years. I also know that my best friend that passed away tragically in May of 2020 would be very proud of me as well so that helps keep me going!

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?
As of right now I sell the most on Instagram!! Instagram is where the bulk of my furniture inventory is posted right away as it goes out for sale! Usually- if an item that is posted on Instagram doesn’t sell there between 4-7 days it is then listed on Facebook marketplace! Sometimes project pieces will be posted directly to Facebook marketplace and on my Instagram stories.
I am starting to slowly branch out with my small vinty items! I have started to test the waters of selling on eBay, Mercari + shipping through Facebook marketplace but would like to look into Etsy and Poshmark. Any other recommendations are appreciated! this is a bit of a slow process as I am a bit of a one woman show a lot of the time right now as well as being a single mama to my toddler but I am looking to expand and create a process soon for this/expanding my business!!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I started my Century Clash Studio Instagram account I started from scratch. At this point I had been selling 100% on Facebook marketplace and I just knew that I was going to need another platform to grow my audience and sell my inventory from. My presence on Instagram has grown tremendously by posting regularly + showing that I cater a lot to the local community, Minneapolis and surrounding areas. It also helps so much that I have customers who keep returning to purchase from me and they keep my name cycling around as well since they love what I offer and they know that I am friendly, honest and reasonable!
