We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sydney Welch. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sydney below.
Sydney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Let me start off by saying, if I’m not passionate about something that my energy is involved in, I simply won’t do it.
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve had the pleasure of working on was for my photography class during my last semester of college.
The photo project was called “Loss during the age of COVID-19” and I centered it on a widow who recently lost her husband to cancer 11 months before the pandemic started.
The photo story was developed over the course of 7 months and I presented 12 final photos to my class after.
Being able to capture someone in such a deep and vulnerable state in their life is something I don’t take for granted.
In all of the projects I work on, I always want to be a safe space for the people I create and connect with.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I received my first digital camera when I was 8 years old and I’ve been creating my dream reality with it ever since. I’ve always had a strong love for music growing up, especially the visual side of it. With my love for music, I’ve been an avid concert goer since I was 10 years old too. Growing up in the Bay Area I’ve been granted so many beautiful concert experiences for artists like Kehlani, G-Eazy, P-lo, IAMSU!,HBK Gang, Guapdad 4000, just to name a few.
I started to bring my camera to events like concerts, listening parties, meet & greet pop ups, and that’s where.the inspiration and connections started to pour in. I am a photographer, creative director and marketing consultant that works mainly with artists (musicians, poets, writers, producers etc) on their branding and executing any photo/video concepts they have in mind. Also, I provide artists with makeup artists, models, videographers, photographers, stylists, when they’re ready to execute a project. My role in the work that I do is to help artists during their creative process and take care of everything behind the scenes.
I feel like my creativity, my voice, my unwaivering faith, my passion and my style is what sets me apart from other people. I’m not afraid to try new things, I’m not afraid to support people out loud. I’m not afraid to learn new things. I’m not afraid to go after my dreams. I’m not afraid to be myself most importantly. In a world full of frauds, I’m committed to being my authentic self no matter life throws at me.
I’m proud of myself for never giving up on my ideas. I’m proud of myself for trusting my intuition and not letting the outside noise distract me from my goals. I’m proud of myself for asking for help when I need it too. Most creatives struggle with asking for help, and working on projects with teams often reminds me that there’s nothing like teamwork. WE NEED PEOPLE TO SURVIVE IN THIS WORLD!
Additionally, I work with artists on securing them with new producers and musicians to collaborate with.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I strongly know my purpose on this earth is to create timeless art and bring people together while doing so. Being a creative in this society and industry comes with so many challenges but I want to continue to inspire people to do what’s best for them. Act on that idea. Reach out to that person. Take that risk. Apply for that job. GO WHERE YOU ARE CELEBRATED AND VALUED AND LOVED. I want to remind creatives of their worth most importantly. It’s easy to get consumed in the discussions that pertain to creatives and what they deserve, but the truth is. WE DESERVE THE WORLD AND MORE. The fact that we’re able to create our life based on our ideas is magic within itself.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I didn’t shy away from taking more production and editing classes. I always want to get better at what I do and that’s why I’m at a state in my life right now where I’m focused on learning and experiencing new things.
