Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Aishwarya (Aaish) Oli . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Aishwarya (Aaish) , appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
See, first things first, I feel that the word “Artist or Art” itself has been underrated for centuries. It is a field of work not much appreciated by most of the people in this world. (at least this is what I have felt on a personal note, although I can definitely be wrong here) But! They know what it is & how powerful impact & influence it can leave on many of us, despite they take this word very easy, as to what remains for the future is not guaranteed & promised (this is what most of the peoples perception or concern in this world goes like).
Because I know this feeling very well, talking about my family itself (family from my father’s side). My grandpa never thought that there was any career in creative lines such as Music, Art or Dance. He never let my father pursue that either. In fact, many of the old-school Indian parents thought this way. They force their children to pursue lines in either Engineering, Medicine (to the extreme) followed by Law studies & other academics, but no creative line!
Continuing the same about my father, he showed great interest in Bollywood & Hindustani Classical singing since he was a kid (I promise he was a really great singer, as a result could have made it to Bollywood) but he never achieved any support from his parents, anyway. That used to be those times & he eventually gave up his dreams & continued pursuing Engineering studies, later becoming an extremely bright student. Past being an engineer, he still gave performances or shows in different cities, but not as a “Singer”.
So, after all the brief information shared about my POV, I am being asked if I am “happy” being “an Artist”?
A Big Yes ! I feel I have been given this great opportunity by God to inspire the world in a larger scale, Just like my dad, I showed an early interest in Singing/ Music since I was 3. Although, later the focused moved to Hollywood, but I still like to Jam some oldies from Bollywood.
Moreover, yes I have pondered over this thought twice & thrice in my life, of what it is like to have a regular desk job & not being what I wanted to be, I have felt that the life for me would feel incomplete as if something is untouched, not completed, a certain kind of void & also certainly would feel boring. On the other side, being an artist gives a complete freedom to speak your thoughts to people, the message you wish to send them (if you are the kind of one who dreams to change the world).
As I stated earlier, creativity is something that is really powerful & has insane ability to leave a huge impact on society, to such extreme that most of us can see changes in ourselves. The act of creating is more powerful than modifying or fixing things in the world. As the great poet “John Keats” had quoted, “A thing of beauty is a joy forever”. Just like how writing has power to flip things over, the same power Music has.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I clearly remember it used to be until 2- 3 in the morning sometimes 4, I heard Katy Perry for the very first time in my life & I was in the middle school around 14 years old. (a recent teen). I was nuts over “Last! Friday!! Night!!!!”, “Baby you’re a Firework…”, “California gurls, Bikinis on top, Sun-Kissed skin….”, “You make me feel like I livin’ a Teenage Dream…” I started dreaming since then. I listened to all her songs, specifically Last Friday Night & Firework before going to school everyday around 6:00- 6:30 am (that’s when my bus used to come pick me up). The craze was insane yet powerful, that never knew would later turn into an obsession & then being an idol. Katy’s charming, unique & powerful voice left me astound. Although, I did hear other artists such as The Carpenters, Stevie Wonder, Natalie Imbruglia, & so on before, but none left me so inspired than Katy herself. Her style, her voice, her personality, her bit of craziness & more importantly, her confidence.
It has been a long journey since then, but Katy perry is one of the main reasons how I landed here in the U.S.
From reading her biography & listening to all her albums, I have been inspired.
On this journey, I explored numerous artists, learned their intricacies, but nothing like Katy’s voice…
Just like how Alanis Morissette was Katy’s inspiration, mine was her.
Oh Lord, those were the days, I even decided to directly move to Santa Barbara, CA to study Italian Opera, but think life had other plans for me.
The thing that makes me feel happier (not going to say proud cause that’s for others to feel) about myself whenever I think about my personality- is the quality of being “honest, thoughtful & dedicated”. More so, being honest. The thought in me to serve others, to serve the society acts like a fuel in me to do better in my work i.e. music. It really motivates me when I lose it. With that being said, the desire to do “for others”, I have noticed a lot in me, which is what this society really needs. There’s a saying in Hinduism – ” Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam ” meaning the whole world is one family. Hence, I try to act like one.
Moreover, I also feel that a person’s genuine & good thought reflects in writing good music & what sets me apart from others, is me wanting to do something for the society through music.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I have always thought that there was always something to learn from someone or some situation, yet failed to actually realize that sometimes you just have to take a step back, be calm & let it be. Sometimes, you just have to unlearn the lesson that you have learned. In my case I had always thought that by doing mediocre hard work or achieving a small goal will always continue to happen so without regular hard work or consistency.
In addition, to remain proficient even in any field, it requires absolute hard work & continued improvement. This thing I released a bit late in life. But never mind, better late than never as they say.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I don’t know about “the most”, but the rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is when it gives me immense satisfaction & the purpose for existing in this world. A good music not only heals humans, but animals & plants, too! The music has power to turn a sick being into a healthy one. Just how medicines act as a cure, Music acts as a cure in a more sentimental and emotional level. As said, a good music can change a person to being more lively. It is one of the soul-stirring medicines.
