We were lucky to catch up with Angel Godinez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Angel, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned as I went along, or “self taught” as they would call it. There aren’t many people out there that are willing to sit down with you and teach you all these things, so you gotta sit down by yourself most of the time and figure it out. I could of definitely done a lot of things by myself instead of waiting around for other people to do it for me. I realized I wasted a lot of time and money on people that never really had any intention of helping me.
I would say having an open mind and the “want” to do it are very essential. Everyone says they want this or want that, but aren’t willing to do the actual work to get it, then I don’t think they really want it. You gotta want it in order to have it and also have an open mind because that is what will teach you to be patient and learn to distinguish bad and constructive criticism.
I would say one big obstacle that always got in my way was funding for my projects. It sometimes gets to be a bit much when you have a personal life, responsibilities, and obligations to take care of first while trying to also fund your own projects.
Angel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Angel Godinez, also known as Priscillo. I’ve been a Music Artist since January of 2018 up until recently that I announced that I will be taking break from music for a while. The genres I was composing in consisted of Hip Hop/Rap, Pop, Latín Pop, R&B, Merengue, Reggaeton, and Bachata. I’ve done a few collaborations with other artists, live performances, and quite a few video productions.
One thing that sets me apart from others is the fact that I am a bilingual Urban Latino artist in the Midwest region of the U.S., as far as I know, there are little to none in this area of the country and that is something I am most definitely proud of.
One main thing that I would like my fans/followers to know is that this is just a small break I’m taking. There is definitely a lot more coming once I go back to making music.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
There is only one mission/goal that drives my creative journey and that is to simply give back everything that I was given. What I mean by this is that I want to take care of those that have taken care of me and whom I’m speaking about specifically is my family.
They gave me everything they never had, and one day I want to be able to give everything back and more.
Have you ever had to pivot?
This happened just recently and it is the reason why I decided to announce to my fans and followers that I will be taking a break for awhile. The story behind this is that I decided to build another business first before I continue with my creative journey in music.
I’m making my own way in the construction industry along with a few other colleagues of mine. We plan on building a business from scratch and we plan on being one of the best in the whole Midwest region of the United States.
This pívot in careers is something that’s going to take a lot of my time and effort, so I had to choose one first and then later on I’ll be able to come back to the other.
