We were lucky to catch up with Marvin Arts Jr. recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Marvin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I came up with my idea based on my experience as a Human Resources Professional. During the early stages of my HR career in a Talent Acquisition capacity, I saw a need to start offering resume writing services. When I would recruit for various positions, many job seekers submitted resumes that did not stand out or highlight their experience relevant to the jobs they were applying for. Many individuals were not even being considered because of the quality of their resumes.
I felt this would be an endeavor worth pursuing because of the need to have a great resume when applying for their desired roles. I was excited to use my recruiting expertise and help individuals craft interview-generating resumes. Additionally, I experienced many challenges when I conducted my job search. I developed a soft spot for job seekers because of the barriers I faced during my job search and used my HR background to be of service to all job seekers.

Marvin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I provide resume writing and career coaching services for various clients. I got into my industry due to my experience as a human resources professional. I also faced challenges during my search for an HR job. I work one-on-one with clients to create personal branding strategies to provide career clarity while emphasizing their value to potential employers. I am most proud of building my business, from writing free resumes for friends and family to becoming a Certified Career Coach that has assisted over 700 clients to date. I want potential clients and followers to know my brand is important to me and my client’s success. I win if they win, and I view each of my clients as a partner in the process.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Referrals have been my best source. I started with a small client base, and it has expanded over the last several years. Unfortunately, Hewlett Packard had a reduction in force several years ago, and I created resumes for a few of the impacted individuals. They were able to find other jobs soon after I completed their resumes, and they told their friends and family members about my services. Over the years, my referrals have significantly grown, making up the majority of my business.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in contact with clients through various channels of communication. For example, I have created an email list with all of my previous and current clients where I send out updates regarding my business. I also send out text messages with various updates and special offers for all of my clients.
