We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amber Tumminello. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amber below.
Amber, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Becoming a parent has truly opened our eyes to the extreme importance of cultivating our future leaders. With that said the same mission of cultivation is being birthed at our farm and into our small business. Learning to work with the land that God has provided for us has been an adventure with both good and bad days. Our passion for the honeybee, elder flowers and elderberry plants is growing tremendously, as well as the knowledge of the health benefits. This love of the honeybee and elderberries was influenced heavily from my time working with Chef Graham Dodds and Todd Hardie. Chef Dodds has been a long time beekeeper as well as farm to table chef. Todd Hardie is also a dedicated beekeeper and a true pioneer of elderberry cough syrup. We as a family are so very grateful for all the knowledge and wisdom both of them have shared thru the years. This devotion has sparked a forever passion in our hearts for cultivating elderberry and raising honey bees in order to bring some alternative healing into our community and future generations.
Amber, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Short story is that I am a product of the fun and lively service industry, which I love very much. Serving others is a true passion that makes my heart very happy. After many years of bartending, I was led to working under the talented Chef Graham Dodds and pairing his stunning farm to table plates with my farm to glass cocktails. We had so much fun teaming up and experimenting with tons of seasonal flavors from his dedicated local farmers.
As I was completely falling in love with the honeybees and the farming world, I was busy running the bar program and getting deeper into some apothecary experiments. At home I was a busy mother with a passion for natural healing. Naturally this led me to creating many different healing recipes we used personally.
After a few years, I began working for one of Chef Dodds good beekeeping brothers Todd Hardie. During this time my husband and I absolutely fell in love with the idea of rescuing honeybees, rehoming them and raising them ourselves. We soon became beekeepers. I was working as the Texas Brand Ambassador and learning more and more about raw honey and elderberry. This sparked a forever passion inside me for the elderberry plant, elder flower and all of the powerful healing properties of this super plant. I began to make elderberry syrup at my home with raw honey for personal use and we began to be the living testimony of the many benefits. As I began adding different ingredients to increase the healing properties, I did research on each item one by one to find the very best quality product and the best way to use it. Providing the highest quality organic ingredients is extremely important to me and a true standard of our small business.
I have been blessed to provide alternative knowledge, ingredients, and or products to people around the nation. My time overseas also helped me understand the many powers of turmeric that we use in a healing instant tea blend. I am most proud of customers loving our products and coming back for more and with positive experiences with my products.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Social media has been an amazing source of new clients for us when we advertise. At the same time customer reviews and their success stories generally create more repeat and dedicated customers. Word of mouth is very powerful.
If you have multiple revenue streams in your business, would you mind opening up about what those streams are and how they fit together?
Yes, being a small business owner stepping into the farming world we have and will continue to have multiple small enterprises for generating revenue.
