We recently connected with Yolanda Cruz and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Yolanda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I always enjoyed music and singing as a little girl, but I started writing music at 16 years old and never looked back.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I always have enjoyed writing and playing music but never thought of myself as a singer. Until I joined my first band then I realized how much I loved singing and how much people actually liked my voice! Last year, I started a group for my original music, which I have been playing acoustically for the past ten years around different spots in the DFW area. Until recently, when i met 3 amazing women and we started Yolanda Cruz and The Daydreamers. I’ve recorded my own music im the past and have released 3 singles. My most recent single, Sea of Faces was chosen for the soundtrack to a horror slasher hit movie, Terrifier 2. I’m a huge horror fan so that was an honor to be a part of. Since then, my band has been making waves here in DFW playing lots of shows!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I feel like just showing up, supporting your local artists, going to see original music because that’s where the heart is. I love being able to hear something that is original, personal, and beautiful, live in concert. Of course, we all have barriers that may prevent us from going out to support these bands, but sharing, commenting, liking on social media is also a huge help.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
To know that I’ve touched someone with my words and music is everything to me. Whether it’s 1 person or 100 people. Music has healed so much in me for so long and being able to give that back into the world is the greatest reward.
