We caught up with the brilliant and insightful JENSEN SUTTA a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
JENSEN, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope my legacy is that I helped others and made a difference.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We primarily provide event photography, however other specialties include music photography (especially live concert coverage), portraiture, incentive trips and our #1 passion is helping non-profits.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal/mission is to leave a positive legacy. I’ve been lucky enough to cross off every job I had hoped to cover. Now my mission is to take jobs and photos that are meaningful and helpful! For example, I was lucky enough to document the work of a non-profit in Haiti, and through those images a donor agreed to fund food for a feeding program for two years. Another example is that images I had captured of the Denver Juneteenth festival were used in a presentation to the Governor and helped in his declaration to make Juneteenth a Colorado holiday. Making a difference is now the mission that drives me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a photographer is the magic of stopping time. Freezing a moment that is important for folks to treasure. It has become even more impactful now that I’ve been a photographer for 23 years…so many folks have passed away that the images become even more treasured.
