Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alexandra Bassett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alexandra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My company’s mission is to promote compassionate methods of dog training that nurture the human and animal bond. I used to volunteer at animal shelters and saw a lot of dogs get looked over or returned to the shelter because they had behavioral problems. My goal is to help dog guardians learn positive methods of training and rehabilitating their dogs and to help dogs stay in their forever homes!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve had dogs my whole life and used to be an animal shelter volunteer. I got into training to help dogs who got overlooked at the shelter. I worked professionally for a big dog training company before starting my own business and learned a lot about the main problems people face when adopting a puppy or rescue dog during that time. A lot of problems can be quickly and easily solved by training a dog using games because games tap into a dog’s innate problem-solving abilities and make training fun, so often bad behavior dies down naturally as a dog learns to show focus and self-control as a way of getting what they want in life.
As a result of years of experience working with dogs with behavioral problems in L.A., I’ve become a leash reactivity and dog separation anxiety specialist. Many of my clients have told me they were told by other trainers that their dog was beyond help, so I’m proud to say that I’ve provided my clients with holistic and compassionate solutions for working with their dogs that have improved their relationship (rather than leaving them feeling hopeless).

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
SEO and word of mouth. I created a blog that added a lot of value to my website and did some PR outreach that allowed me to acquire backlinks that pushed me onto the first page of search results for a variety of keywords. I also do my best to provide my clients with a lot of support, so we get a lot of recommendations from our clients. Most people ask friends, vets, or Google for dog trainer recommendations, so we always have a steady stream of clients as a result.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Online reviews have been the most helpful – everyone tells me they contact me because of my stellar reviews. Thank you to all of my clients for your support!
