We recently connected with Brookelyn Akers and have shared our conversation below.
Brookelyn , appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
In 2020 during COVID, I was working as a welder through a construction company. I was working 12-14 hour shifts and sometimes I was even 2 hours away from home for work so I had no time to continue doing Photography. In 2020, I went through a divorce. Working in construction kept my mind and hands busier than what my photography business could offer me. I had no desire to continue with Photography because it left me with memories that kept me close to my past. I struggled with deciding whether or not to keep my construction job, or take a leap of faith into doing something I can build on my own, and not build another business’s name. I chose to quit my day job, and in 2021 I was a full time wedding photographer. I had no idea where life was going, but along the way, I got remarried to a wonderful guy who I’ve known for 5 years previously. Since I became a full time photographer, my husband has supported me and my decision to continue being full time. I couldn’t have done this without my husbands love & support.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into the wedding industry after I was a second shooter for a fellow wedding photographer. From that wedding going forward, I knew that was the type of photography I wanted to do. I love everything about weddings, from planning, to the details, etc. What sets me apart from most photographer’s in my area, is that I have two different editing styles I offer and I always let my clients choose how they want their photos to look. I have a quick turnaround time for delivering images unlike some photographers because I am set on getting something done in a timely manner rather than setting it aside for another day. I love to work and I am very passionate about what I do. My business name comes from a bible verse that I love, and I decided to be creative and use it for my business name.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of clients for my business has always been on Facebook. I always post in groups about my services and what I have to offer.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Most times, I will send out Christmas cards, and thank you notes to all of my clients, past and present. I like to keep in touch but to keep it at a very minimum.
