We recently connected with Dae’l Pasco and have shared our conversation below.
Dae’l, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
Believe it or not, there’s a lot that can happen in a span of 35 years. Things are birthed, while others die. There’s technological advancement. Some bodies get better, while others get weaker. Climates and environments change. And mindsets grow or get worse.
Over the past 35 years, I’m grateful for the evident growth that’s taken place in my life. I’ve learned to find my voice in Christ, the courage to actually use my voice, and made a promise to never lose it again.
I didn’t become comfortable with really showing up for quite some time. Experiences in life would often try to bully me into a muzzled and soundproof corner of isolation. However, through each experience, I never stopped thinking, I never stopped growing, I never stopped creating.
My mind is full of beauty and life-changing ideas. As a result of this I can either think myself into overwhelm, impulsivity, & stagnancy, or into productivity, freedom, and patience. Thankfully, I’m learning to do the latter.
My creative and administrative mind makes it easy to come up with what some would call million dollar ideas. It’s nothing to write a vision, put people in place, create a brand board, establish the marketing materials and push the idea to the intended audience. I’ve done it countless times. To be honest… there are times I’ve pushed ideas that were good but, they weren’t necessary for that time. As a result they didn’t last.
If I could start over, I believe I would sit with some of my ideas a little longer than usual. I wouldn’t allow the thought of “missing the moment” to harass me. I would fully trust God with timing. And I would be ok with doing “it” later, if necessary.
As creative people, it can be tough doing one thing at a time, or allowing 1 idea to take off and gain traction before launching the next. However, there are times this is necessary. I’m learning this more and more each day. I’m also learning the importance of having a solid team and actually vetting properly to establish said team.
Your friend or family member may be great at financial stewardship but, they may not do well working for you – depending on their familiarity or honor for what you’ve launched. This is important to keep in mind for any project, position, plan, and person. I’ve launched plenty of endeavors and creating a solid team is something I’m just beginning to get a grip on. If I were to start over today, I’d definitely work on my idea alone for a year, while scouting those that could jump onboard on day 366.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Dae’l, the woman many have coined: “The pusher of purpose,” and “gatherer of women”… I am devoted to fostering lives of authenticity and beauty, by promoting the value of healing, wholeness, and personal maintenance, while assisting women in becoming the brand they desire to share with the world.
After experiencing a major heartbreak in 2015, I laid beside my bed one night and promised God that I’d help every heartbroken woman He led to me, if He’d just heal my broken heart. That night I cried over that situation for the last time, and woke up with an idea to bring women together, brunch, read His word, talk it out, and heal. I’ve held conferences, retreats, and webinars centered around healing and wholeness.
Although I loved speaking to women about overcoming heartbreak and embracing wholeness as their life’s promise, I realized there was so much more work to do after choosing wholeness as reality. I wanted to work with women who needed help showing up, or needed assistance in showing up in the spaces they’re called to personally and professionally.
God’s given me a heart for beauty and money making. I can take something that’s been discarded, see it’s beauty, restore it and sell it almost immediately. This is a process I’d do with furniture and clothing often. Once I realized we often go through the same process when it comes to our becoming, I applied the same to women that I’d work with.
Simply put… I pick up, encourage, beautify, and push.
If a woman needs more personal help I provide life coaching and mentorship services through The Womanhood Academy, where I’m committed to “Restoring The Gentle Woman,” in faith and with simple, yet proven principles of life.
If a woman needs professional help with her business or brand, a fun, posh, and productive space “Oh Rich Girl” has been curated for her as well.
I believe it’s imperative that women (and men) understand who they are as a brand, before launching their professional brand. Of course we’re learning more and more about ourselves daily, so we won’t know every single detail for our entire lifespan; however, if we do the work, we’ll know every single detail we need for each moment of every day.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn to take full responsibility for my life. I’ve never been fond of being labeled a statistic, or allowing said statistics to dictate where and how my life would end up. As a result I had to sift through my life, thinking, character, ways, and mindset, in order to let go of and remove all areas that I was holding myself hostage to victimization.
The last straw was when I found myself blaming an ex “lover” on how life was turning out for me. When I realized how much power I was giving away, I made up my mind to see how I allowed partnered (if not led) the decisions in placing me in such a low state. People can only do to you what you allow. I stopped allowing my heart to be in the hands of people with death grips, placed it back in God’s hand. From there I chose who would be in my life, raised the standard of my life, chose to remain optimistic in all things; while understanding the reality of what was taking place, and made it my life’s mission to learn and grow from any and everything.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
When it comes to fostering brand loyalty and keeping in touch with clients… I speak with them often – even if they are no longer receiving services from me – because, I genuinely care about the person. As a bonus, I send out weekly e-mails that include prayer for the women who have signed up, and affirmations that help them remember who they are – no matter what they face. Lastly, I have multiple communities for women who have signed up for community membership, mentorship & coaching, as well as daily morning calls.
