We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Addie Pecord. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Addie below.
Addie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
At the beginning of 2021, I began to think about how I wanted the year to unfold. With my husband starting a new job requiring constant travel, I decided I needed to create a life where I could have the flexibility to travel with him or at least visit. That goal sparked months of planning, building and eventually launching my own interior design business. I hired a business advisor to help me write my business plan, researched design platforms and began opening vendor accounts. In May of 2021, I started my first project and I’ve been extremely fortunate to have had a steady flow of projects and referrals ever since. I am so excited to be coming up on a successful one year anniversary!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was born and raised in the Vail Valley in Colorado. After high-school, I moved to Arizona where I studied both fashion and interior design. Once I graduated college, I moved to Los Angeles where I proceeded to get a professional designation design degree. I pursued fashion design as the petite denim designer for James Jeans in Los Angeles. When life brought me back to Colorado, I switched design fields and started my career in Interior Design with Slifer Designs in Edwards, Colorado. Nine years later I am the proud owner of my thriving business, LA Studio & Co.
We are open to all project sizes and all budget ranges, which is one of the things that really sets us apart from others. I take pride in helping my clients truly make homes out of their houses. It’s very important to me to create relationships and build trust throughout their project and most of them have become friends beyond the completion of their project.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Having grown up in the valley, I have deep local connections and relationships that certainly helped to build and maintain my reputation within this market. Referrals from previous clients and fellow interior designers have continued to spread and grow our name as well. Social media has been an integral part of allowing people to see the vast scope of the work and types of projects I do.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Past clients and colleagues, as well as friends, family and other interior designers.
